Wheaton Academy is pleased to announce that
Leah Dunlap has been named girls' varsity volleyball head coach and will take over the program for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Coach Dunlap has been involved with Warrior volleyball for four years and is a familiar face at Wheaton Academy. She has been the girls' and boys' varsity assistant coach for the last four years. Coach Dunlap's vision is to build upon an already solid volleyball program and to grow and develop leaders who will take what they learn on the court into life.
Coach Dunlap is a graduate of Hope College, where she earned a B.A. in Secondary Education Social Studies and Psychology. She played volleyball during her time at Hope, was voted captain by her coaches and teammates as a senior in 2017, and was a member of the 2014 National Championship team. Coach Dunlap grew up in Wheaton, playing volleyball and soccer at Wheaton North High School, and club volleyball for Sports Performance out of Aurora. She currently teaches Social Studies here at Wheaton Academy.
Coach DA Nichols, who will stay on staff to ease the transition as well as retain his role as Head Coach of the boys volleyball team had this to say about Coach Dunlap, "I am excited for Coach Dunlap as she steps into leading the girls' volleyball program this fall. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the game, and is intentional in building relationships and being a spiritual mentor for our athletes. Leah has a contagious energy that will push her teams to be highly competitive and prepared throughout the season. Coach Dunlap is the perfect fit for this program and look forward to her continuing to push the program forward with great success."
We are confident that Coach Dunlap's relationships with our current players will allow for a smooth transition in preparing the team for the upcoming season and will help her build on a program with a strong tradition. Coach Dunlap reflects the values of a Wheaton Academy coach who will use her sport to disciple young women to become followers of Christ. Her knowledge of the game and her love for our players and Wheaton Academy make her the perfect fit to be our next head coach. We are excited for her to lead our volleyball staff as they seek to impact the next generation of young women for the glory of God.
