The Wheaton Academy football team lost to 4A State Runner-Up Bishop McNamara by a score of 28-7 on Thursday night. The homecoming game marks the second year in a row that the Warriors have played their homecoming game on Thursday night. The atmosphere was electric, and the Warriors put forth a valiant effort in the loss.
In the first half, the Fighting Irish of Bishop McNamara were able to string together some long drives to go up 21-0 at halftime. The Warriors had opportunities, but they could not get the ball into the end zone, throwing two interceptions and incurring several costly penalties.
After halftime the Warrior defense played strong, allowing only on 2nd-half touchdown. The Warriors were able to score late in the game on a
Shane Baumgarten 5-yard touchdown run.
On offense, the Warriors were lead by running back
Stephen Garner who carried the ball 10 times for 54 yards. Baumgarten accumulated 25 total yards and accounted for Wheaton Academy's only touchdown.
On defense, the Warrior leading tackler was
Jeremiah Staten, amassing 11 total tackles.
Trevor Donna had a good night, racking up 8 total tackles with 4 tackles for loss.
Next week Wheaton Academy travels to Aurora to play ACC in a critical conference matchup. Kickoff is at 6:30 PM.
