The Wheaton Academy Warriors traveled to Coal City for the first round of the IHSA playoffs Monday night. The Warriors played tough in the first half and ultimately broke down in the second half in the 37-0 loss to the Coalers.
The game was tied 0-0 at the end of the first quarter, and Coal City scored midway through the second to make it 8-0. The Coalers were able to tack on another score before haltime to make it 16-0.
Coal City got the ball to start the second half and put together a long drive to make it 23-0. The Warriors turned over the ball twice on successive possessions, and Coal City capitalized both times, extending their lead to 37-0.
The Warriors mounted some late drives but were unable to find the end zone.
The Warriors finish the season with a 5-5 record.
