The Wheaton Academy football team moved to 4-0 on the season with a commanding 35-0 win over Chicago Christian on Friday night. Despite the wet and rainy conditions, the Warriors executed in all phases of the game, and rode a big opening quarter to victory. The 4-0 start marks the second season in a row that the Warriors have opened with undefeated records in the first four games.
The game opened with a
Chase Martin recovered fumble to set up excellent field position for the Warrior offense. Martin was able to score the first touchdown as well on a 1 yard run. After another recovered fumble, the offense had another short field and capitalized on a
David Thrasher 17-yard touchdown pass to
Steven Sellers. Wheaton Academy closed the first quarter with yet another score, this time on a Thrasher 18-yard touchdown pass to
Luke Manske. The Warriors took a 28-0 lead into halftime thanks to another Thrasher touchdown pass, this time of 24 yards to Sellers.
The second half moved quickly, as the Warrior defense continued to shut down any hope of a Chicago Christian score with numerous tackles in the backfiled thanks to slopy ball handeling by the Knights. Thrasher threw his fourth touchdown of the game, this time to
Kordell Bowling, a 36-yard strike. The defense held firm for the remainder of the game, and the Warrior defense secured its first shutout of the season.
The Warriors tallied 273 yards of total offense using a balanced attack. Thrasher completed 8 of 14 passes for 135 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Steven Sellers was the leading receiver with 2 catches for 41 yards and 2 TDs.
Chase Martin was the leading rusher with 10 carries for 70 yards and 1 TD.
