Wheaton Academy rode a dominant rushing attack to a big win over conference opponent Chicago Christian. Â The Warriors moved to 4-4 with the victory with a conference record of 3-3. Â The win moves the Warriors to within one win of the playoffs with a tough matchup against Marian Central looming next week.
Wheaton Academy got off to a fast start in the game, taking a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and a 28-7 lead into halftime. Â
John Gemmel accounted for three of the Warriors touchdowns on the night, including a long 56 yard run to cap the scoring in the first half. Â Gemmel finished with 240 yards on 12 carries. Â
Camden Meade also had a good night, carrying the ball 6 times for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Warriors tacked on 3 more touchdowns in the second half, the final touchdown scored by junior running back
Mike Silfugarian. Â
On the night, the Warriors accumulated 495 yards of total offense, 406 of which came on the ground. Â Quarterback
David Thrasher completed 5 of 12 passes for 89 yards and 1 touchdown. Â
Marino Costello was on the receiving end of the touchdown pass, his sixth TD catch of the year.
