Wheaton Academy jumped out to a quick 21 point lead in the first nine minutes of play in this key week one matchup. Sophomore RB
Stephen Fellowes (8 carries for 62 yards, 2TDs) punched in the first Warrior score of the evening. Senior QB,
Belay Brummel (12/18, 218yds, 3TDs with 23yds rushing) followed shortly after with an 18 yard option keeper and Sr. WR
Breck Peacock (7 rec for 82 yards, 1TD) connected on a 16 yard pass from Brummel. Wheaton Academy would go into the half with a 35-0 lead. Sr. RB
Gavin Pedone (10 for 53yds, 2TDs) would add 2TDs of his own in the second and third quarters.
A key to Wheaton Academy's success last night was defensively shutting down MCC's four star, multiple D1-offered WR Christian Bentancur, limiting the senior WR to only 4 receptions for 24 yards. Warrior Head Coach
Jim Johanik spoke about his defense's achievement: "He rarely got a clean look at the ball all night. Depending on the formation Christian lined up in, we dedicated a different defender to cover him. You could say the plan Defensive Coordinator
Justin Swider created worked well."
Defensively the Warriors were led by safety Peacock, who in addition to his offensive production tallied 8 tackles and the game's only interception on defense. DT
Jaret Jawor made an impact in the interior with four tackles, one for a loss and a fumble recovery.
The Warriors (1-0) travel to Elmhurst University next Friday to take on Christ the King (0-1), game time at 7:30pm.
