Lacrosse Finishes 4th in State

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 19, 2021) - Competing in their first-ever IHSA State Tournament, the Wheaton Academy lacrosse team finished in fourth place following a tightly contested game against York. Ultimately, the Dukes prevailed 7-6 to take third place.

A Gavin Pedone goal opened the scoring for the Warriors as they went into the second quarter down 2-1. Pedone knotted the game at two with his second goal of the contest, just a couple of minutes into quarter number two. With 60 seconds to go in the first half, Davis Schneider netted his first goal of the game to give Wheaton Academy a 3-2 advantage heading into halftime.

York tied the game at three apiece early in the third quarter, but Andrew Serna broke the tie from eight yards out to put the Warriors ahead, 4-3. The Dukes responded once again with their equalizer to bring the game to 4-4 after three-quarters of play.

Aiden Weisenborn scored to put the Warriors back on top about halfway through the final quarter. In the following 90 seconds of gameplay, York tallied two quick goals, followed by a third to increase their lead to 7-5. Pedone finished off the hat trick with just over a minute to go, but it wasn't enough as York did just enough to hold onto the win and take third place.

Wheaton Academy ended their most successful season in school history with IHSA Sectional and Super-Sectional plaques as well as a fourth-place trophy. On the year, the Warriors posted a record of 16-5 while outscoring their opponents by 189.
