The Warriors of Wheaton Academy advance to 5-0 in MSC play with a 4-1 victory of St. Francis on Thursday night at Performance Trust Field. Wheaton Academy celebrated their seniors before the match, honoring 11 senior athletes in their fourth year of Warrior Soccer. A special thanks to the officiating crew and St. Francis for allowing Chris Eklund (Sr.) to take the opening kick off on his senior night. Eklund had surgery at the start of the season and has yet to return to full play.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Giovanni Nicoski guided a header into the back of the net. Jack Liechty would double their lead 3 minutes later as he nodded home a corner kick from Sam Froslid. St. Francis pulled one back in the 18th minute, making the score 2-1 at half time. Lots of action in the second half, with both keepers getting multiple opportunities to show their metal. Andrew Hoekstra recorded 4 saves on the evening. Allen Rodriguez would score in the 55th minute thanks to a headed assist from Solomon Pitts, and Daniel Rychenkov would round out the scoring in the 74th minute heading home a pass from Haetham Nasr.
The Warriors are 8-3-1 (5-0 MSC) and visit St. Charles East on Saturday.
