The Wheaton Academy football team lost to Immaculate Conception 43-7 on the road Friday night. The Warriors fell to the 3-time defending state champions after falling behind early and having trouble overcoming early mistakes.
Friday night marked the first start for Sophomore quarterback
David Dorn, replacing the injured
Shane Baumgarten. IC got off to a fast start, scoring 17 quick points in the first quarter and another 14 in the second to take a 31-0 lead into halftime.
Wheaton Academy got on the board in the second half on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Dorn to receiver
Alex Ventimilla. Ventimilla made a spectacular diving catch in the back of the end zone for the score. The Knights were able to tack on a couple late scores to account for the final.
Dorn completed 10 passes for 88 yards.
Alex Ventimilla caught 2 passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Jayson Rucker snagged 5 passes for 55 yards. Running back
Stephen Garner carried the ball 10 times for 63 yards.
On defense, the Warriors were lead by linebacker
Trevor Donna with a total of 6 tackles. Defensive end
Jared Samuelson added 5 tackles.
Next week the Warriors travel to St. Francis to play the Spartans in an important conference matchup. The game is on Saturday 9/21 at 1:00 PM and will be played at Wheaton College.
