The Wheaton Academy Warriors won their second game of the year with a commanding 38-6 victory over the Green Wave of St. Edward. Wheaton Academy rode a balanced attack and a dominant defensive effort to secure a key cross-conference matchup. Despite a 1-hour lightning delay in the middle of the game, the Warriors were able to put forth a consistent effort all night to walk off the field with a victory.
Wheaton Academy scored on their first offensive play of the game, a 24-yard pass from
Ben Thorson to
Noah Jones. After the Warriors defense held St. Edward to -1 yard in the first quarter, Wheaton Academy was able to extend the lead on another Thorson to Jones connection, this time for an 18-yard touchdown. Lightning was in the area midway through the second quarter, and the teams had to suspend play for over an hour with Wheaton Academy leading 14-0.
When play resumed, the Warriors were able to march down the field on a 9-play drive capped by a
Ben Thorson 1-yard touchdown run. The Warrior defense was strong once again in the second half, and the Warriors were able to put together scoring drives of 69 and 51 yards, respectively. Both drives were capped by Thorson TD passes, a 35-yards strike to
Steven Ryan and a 45-yards screen pass to
Michael Cortez. Kicker Jack Ryken capped the scoring with a 30-yard field goal.
On offense, the Warriors accumulated 318 total yards of offense.
Ben Thorson completed 8-11 passes for 163 yards and 4 touchdowns with 13 yards rushing and another touchdown.
Cristian Carstens touched the ball 14 times for 124 yards.
Noah Jones was the leading receiver with 4 catches, 72 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
On defense, the Warriors first group held St. Edward to only 80 yards of offense.
Sam Palmer was the leading tackler with 6 total tackles and 1 fumble recovery.
Jack Ryken lead the special teams effort, converting 5/5 extra points, 1 field goal, and 4 touchbacks.
