Wheaton Academy Drops Close Game to Glenbard South

The Warriors lost a close game on Friday night by a score of 27-23.  The loss moves the Warriors to 3-3 on the season.  

Glenbard South got on the board first on an interception returned for a touchdown to make the score 6-0.  Wheaton Academy answered with a long drive that resulted in a Miles VanderKlok 27-yard field goal.  The Warriors would score again before halftime on a long touchdown run of 43 yard from running back Cristian Carstens.  Wheaton Academy held the 10-6 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Warriors extended the lead to 17-6 on a touchdown pass of 20 yards from Ben Thorson to receiver Noah Jones.  The Warriors were driving again late in the 3rd quarter and attempted a field goal that was blocked by Glenbard South and returned for a touchdown to make the score 17-12.  Wheaton Academy responded by driving the length of the field and scoring on a 55-yard touchdown strike from Thorson to VanderKlok.  The Warriors lead 23-12 in the 4th quarter.

Glenbard South responded with a touchdown throw to close the score to 23-20.  The Warriors punted the ball back to Glenbard South with 2 minutes left in the game.  Glenbard South hit a long pass for a touchdown to take the lead for good at 27-23.  Wheaton Academy's last drive made it inside Glenbard South territory, but ended with an interception.

On offense, the Warriors tallied 485 total yards.  Cristian Carstens rushed for 216 yards on 21 carries and 1 touchdown.  Ben Thorson completed 12 of 26 passes for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Miles VanderKlok was the leading receiver with 3 total catches for 87 yards and 1 touchdown.

On defense the Warriors were lead by Dimitire Skakvac who tallied 18 total tackles.  Jay Callentine contributed 14 stops, and Marc Whitaker had 8 total tackles.

Next Week, the Warriors host Immaculate Conception in the 2017 homecoming game.  Kickoff is at 1 PM.
