Boys Basketball falls to Riverside Brookfield in Overtime

In their final game of the regular season, the boys basketball team lost a tough overtime game at home to Riverside Brookfield 62-59 on Tuesday night. The Warriors got off to a great start on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor limiting the Bulldogs to just 6 first quarter points while making a trio of 3 point shots to take a 15-6 advantage entering the second quarter. Wheaton Academy was able to sustain a Riverside Brookfield run and held a 7-point advantage at the half.

Riverside Brookfield outscored the Warriors 22-14 in the third quarter to hold a 41-40 advantage. The Warriors clamped down on the defensive end of the floor to start the fourth quarter and handled pressure down the stretch. However, with a 5-point lead with under two minutes to play, the Warriors were unable to convert at the free throw line and a runner by the Bulldogs with a second to play sent the game into overtime. In overtime, the Warriors were unable to make a couple timely buckets while the Bulldogs converted from the free throw line. The Warriors possessed the ball with 15 seconds to player and were able to get two 3 point attempts off but could not get them to fall.
Jimmy Paganis led the Warriors with 17 points. Jack Dykema had a strong second half and end the game with 12 points. JD Gunn and Marcus Bult each had 11. Gunn was again a force on both the offensive and defensive glass.

The Warriors will be back in action on Monday, January 27 to take on St. Francis at Marmion Academy as they start postseason play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
