The Wheaton Academy Warriors won their 5th game of the year by a score of 41-0. The win moves the Warriors to 5-3 overall, thus making them playoff eligible. A win next week would guarantee a spot in the playoffs. The Warriors dominated tonight's game from start to finish thanks to a balanced offensive attack and a smothering defense.
Harrison Taylor started the night with a special teams touchdown, a 79-yard kickoff return which he took down the Fenton sideline. After forcing a punt, the Warriors marched the ball down the field and capped off a long scoring drive with a
Chase Martin 2-yard touchdown run. After yet another defensive stop,
David Thrasher found
Luke Manske in the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown pass. The Warriors moved the score to 28-0 at the end of the first quarter after
Nori Kasai recovered a Fenton fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
The second quarter saw the Warriors tack on two more scores. Thrasher found Maske yet again for a 23-yard touchdown pass, and
Chase Martin hit paydirt on a 3-yard touchdown run. The offensive line, anchored by seniors
David McDonell,
Noah Owens, and
Nathan Meade, opened holes all night long and helped account for the consistent running game.
In the second half, the Warriors defense held firm to preserve the shutout.
David Thrasher completed 7 of 13 passes for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Luke Manske caught 3 passes for 46 yards and 2 TDs. On defense,
Chase Martin lead the way with 8 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss.
Dimitrie Skakavac also got in on the action with 6 tackles, 3 TFLs, and 1 sack.
Next week the Warriors travel to Aurora Central Catholic for their final game of the regular season. Kickoff is at 7:15 PM.
