Tonight the Warriors traveled to Arlington Heights to face an athletic, good shooting St. Viator. The Warriors struggled early to score, but played tight defense and ended the first quarter down 7 with a score of 12-5. The second quarter things got out of hand as the Lions found their rhythm inside and out, building their lead to as much as 21 points midway through the second quarter. At the close of the second half WA was down 31-12. But the Warriors never gave in. They came out of the locker room with a new level of pride and fight. Although the score might not have reflected it in the end, Wheaton Academy did not back down from a challenge and that is something to build on. By the end of the third quarter the Lions had extended their lead to 47-25 and were able to finish the game in convincing fashion with a score of 62-39. For the Warriors, senior Jake Lindstedt had one of his best performances of the year finishing the game with 9 points and almost that many rebounds.
Christian Smith also had a consistent performance ending the game with 9 points attacking the basket hustling on defense.
The sophomore Warriors had a tough game against a big Lions squad. The Warriors got off to a solid start and led the Lions by as many as 10 in the second quarter, but ended the half up one, 34-35. The second half was back and forth, but this time the sophomore Warriors would come up short, losing in the final seconds, 64-60.
Sam Scharnowski had his best performance of the year, staying out of foul trouble and leading the team with 11 points, a number of fierce rebounds, and several blocks. Scoring was well balanced among the remaining players as the Warriors seemed in sync offensively. The freshman team had a rough night as well, losing to their Lion hosts, 52-28. The Warriors will take on ICCP at home this
Friday, December 19th, 7:30 PM.
