Naperville, IL--The varsity boys basketball team lost 61-58 to Oswego East in the one-day Naperville North shootout on Saturday afternoon. Oswego East (4-11) applied consistent defensive pressure against the Warriors (12-4), forcing many quick offensive possessions and turnovers.
Wheaton Academy jumped out to an early lead and it seemed as if the Warriors were going to have their way with the Wolves. WA led 20-17 at the half, but Oswego East clawed their way back in the second quarter to enter halftime with a one point, 36-35 lead.
#25 Vaughn gave the Warriors trouble, as the quick guard made pull-up jumper after pull-up jumper, scoring 22 points in the game. WA found themselves down three points going into the fourth quarter. Multiple turnovers down the stretch--turnovers that are uncharacteristic of this Warrior team ultimately led to the team's loss. The lead was within reaching with under a minute to go in the game, but the Warriors failed to convert.
Gordon Behr led the team with 19 points, while Brandon Ruggles contributed 11 points and Collin Roy scored 10. The loss moves the team's overall record to 12-4 on the season. Their next game is Friday night at St. Francis at 7:30pm.
