Warriors Leave No Doubts

Josh Ruggles scores 23 in 87-50 win over Chicago Christian

West Chicago, IL—The varsity boys basketball team looked to bounce back after Friday night's 70-51 loss to St. Viator with a home matchup against SCC conference foe Chicago Christian.

Wheaton Academy took full advantage of the Knights' 1-3-1 zone, patiently looking for gaps, moving the ball, and finding the open man. Josh Ruggles was one of those open men who drained three pointer after three pointer throughout the night, knocking down a total of 6 three's and scoring a varsity career-high 23 points in this breakout game for the sophomore sharp-shooter.

The Warriors outscored the Knights in each of the four quarters, limited their turnovers, and finished on the break. WA earned a 20-point, 43-23 lead at the half, and increased that margin in the third quarter on the shoulders of Josh Ruggles' 11 third quarter points.

The lead was up to as much as 32 points entering the final eight minutes of play (68-36), when the Warriors looked to their bench play. All members of the team played significant minutes and everyone scored, as the Warriors left no doubts in this 87-50 victory.

Josh Ruggles led all scoring with 23 points followed by Gordon Behr (13 points), Collin Roy (8 points), and Evan Williams (8 points). #20 Bulthuis led the Knights with 15 points, while #50 Wolinski added 13. WA got to the free throw line 24 times compared to Chicago Christian's 4 free throw attempts.

Saturday night's game marks the first conference win of the 2012-2013 campaign for the Warriors, who improve to 5-1 (1-0 SCC) on the season. They will travel to Aurora Christian next Tuesday night for a 7:30 PM game against the Eagles.
