June 21st, 2021Â - Jake Cousins '13 was selected to the Milwaukee Brewers 40-man roster, the organization announced today. While at Wheaton Academy, Cousins was a key contributor to a conference championship while earning All-Conference and All-Area. He ranked seventh in Illinois in strikeouts his final season as well.
"He got called up to the SHOW! He was told late last night and had an early flight to Arizona to meet the Brewers, his dad Ken said. "Not a bad Father's Day gift." His mother Aimee is headed down to Arizona to be at the game.
Cousins continued his playing career at Penn University and quickly made his mark as he was named Honorable Mention All-Ivy League as a freshman. At the end of his collegiate career, Cousins ranked third in career wins (20) at Penn while ranking sixth in career ERA (2.91), and ninth in career strikeouts (394).
He was drafted in the 20th round to the Washington Nationals in 2017. On July 17th of 2019, the Brewers signed Cousins where he started playing for the Arizona League Brewers, a rookie affiliate of the organization. Quickly moving up, Cousins began 2021 with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. Today, the professional team selected his contract from Nashville to Milwaukee prior to their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
