ERIN CARWELL NAMED WARRIORS HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH
The Wheaton Academy Athletic Department is pleased to announce that
Erin Carwell has been named Head Girls Basketball Coach. Coach Carwell served as the interim coach for the 2017-18 season, leading the Warriors to an 11-14 record. Last year Coach Carwell served as Assistant Varsity Coach prior to being named Interim Head Coach in April of 2017. Coach Carwell has a passion for her athletes and a heart for coaching. She is a tremendous communicator who is professional, knowledgeable and accessible. Coach Carwell commented: "I love coaching girls basketball! I know from my own experience that the skills, teamwork, and relationships you learn as part of a team are invaluable. I also believe it's important for young women to have female mentors, and I strive to create a program that not only is successful, but also helps form strong, confident and spirit-filled young women." Coach Carwell is graduate of Wheaton College where she played basketball for the Thunder. In addition to coaching, Coach Carwell serves as the Dean of Students/Guidance Counselor at Wheaton Academy.
STEVE THONN NAMED WARRIORS HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH
Wheaton Academy is pleased to announce that
Steve Thonn has been named Head Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Thonn has been serving in an interim role since April of 2017 when former Head Coach David Osborn left Wheaton Academy for an assistant coaching position with Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team. Coach Thonn spent two years as an assistant coach before serving as the Interim Head Coach and has been instrumental in the current success of the team. The Warriors are currently 20-6 and have bounced back from last year's disappointing 6-21 season. He commented: "I am excited to work with the group that I've been around for the last three years and to continue improvements in the basketball program at Wheaton Academy." As a long-time coach in the Arena Football League with a lengthy history of success at various levels across different sports, Coach Thonn brings extensive coaching experience to this position. He is committed to developing the boys' basketball program by providing leadership and stability.
