Wheaton Academy Teams Serve Puente del Pueblo

Wheaton Academy students always enjoy the opportunity to interact with the local community and serve in ministries across the area.

This year, the 2018 Wheaton Academy Girls Varsity volleyball team took a day off from practice to spend time at an after-school program called Puente del Pueblo (a part of Outreach Community Ministries) at Indian Knoll Elementary School in West Chicago.

The girls organized a time of singing together with the Puente children, and then a couple seniors shared their testimony. They told the kids how God has used their four years being involved at Wheaton Academy and the volleyball program to help them grow, learn, and be challenged to share Christ's love with others.

The girls also conducted a 90-minute volleyball clinic for the kids. For most of the children in Puente del Pueblo, this was their first experience with volleyball! The varsity volleyball team was thrilled to have the opportunity to spend time with Puente del Pueblo and look forward to a chance to visit with them again.

The 2018 Cross Country teams also served with Puente del Pueblo at Wegner School in West Chicago. The girls cross country team led a Christian education session—teaching Bible stories to the kids that were there—and were able to be the coaches for the individual athletes at Puente. The boy's cross country team designed a cross-country race for the students to compete in after the Bible story.

It was a great success. Athletes scored the race and even organized an awards program for the children after the race.

The partnership Wheaton Academy has with Puente del Pueblo is special. There are so many opportunities to serve our neighbors and be the light of Christ.
