Girls Basketball Begins 2018-19 Season

The Wheaton Academy girl's basketball team began their 2018-2019 season by playing in the Somonauk Tournament. The Warriors started by playing Newark on Monday, and lost 60-27. Sophomore Jerilyn Blackmon led the way for the Warriors with eight points, including three free throws and a three-points while adding four steals on the defensive end. Fellow sophomore Molly Vanhuizen and junior Britta Swoboda each added six points. 

On Tuesday, they faced off against the host-team, the Somonauk Bobcats. The Warriors recorded their first win of the season by a score of 45-31. Blackmon again provided the scoring with a team-high 13 points, followed closely by Imani Hillmer with 11 points. Both Blackmon and Hillmer had two three-pointers each. 

The Warriors faced Plano on Wednesday and suffered a tough loss, 45-34. Blackmon continued her stellar play as she scored a team-high 12 points, including a perfect 5/5 from the free-throw line. Vanhuizen also added eight points, along with Sara Mantia and Analise Richcreek who each scored five points.

In their fourth game in five days, the Warriors lost to Seneca 41-30. Blackmon who is averaging points per game, put up ten points in the game. Richcreek followed her with seven points while Hillmer had six points and 11 rebounds. 

The Warriors continue their season on Tuesday against Aurora Christian at 7:00pm in the Warrior Dome.
