Warriors Win Wheaton Cup

The Warriors won the Wheaton Cup for the 2nd consecutive year after a 1-0 defeat of Wheaton North.
Wheaton Academy and Wheaton North both won their first two games of the tournament, setting up the championship games between the two teams.

The first half started with Wheaton North having the edge in possession and opportunities, but the Warriors gradually gained momentum.  Towards the end of the first half, the Warriors received a free kick in the opposing half.  Kat Sezenov shot was on target and Anna Lindsay gathered the rebound and buried it in the back of the net for her 16th goal of the season.  Kat Sezenov was injured on the play, but was able to return for the 2nd half.  The back line of Caroline Lister, Kat Sezenov, Rachel Bermudez, and Alena Ledesma kept Wheaton North's attack from finding success.  Natalie Petro and Yesica Browne were relentless in their work on the wings, and the central triangle of Lydia Sedjo, Rebecca Steininger and Bethany Berquist controlled the possession in the midfield.  The final few minutes saw Wheaton North have several opportunities on goal, but goalkeeper Jenny Marstellar kept her four shutout of the game after a series of big saves.

The Warriors play again on Monday against Benet and will hope to continue their 5 game win streak.
