Wheaton Academy and Quincy Notre Dame both entered the championship game of their bracket at the Go 4 Goal tournament with 14 wins a piece. The game had a playoff feel to it as the two teams traded chances and looked to take the advantage. Quincy ND struck first off a serve from the right wing and a header finish that just looped over the hands of
JD Gunn. The Warriors responded just 8 minutes later as
Luke Holwerda hit a strike from about 28 yards out that dipped underneath the outstretched arms of the QND goalkeeper. The teams were knotted at 1 at the break. The Warriors then jumped out into the lead as
Grayson Harris found the back of the net with about 22 minutes left in the game. Quincy used the wind, a long throw, and some quality soccer to put pressure on the Warriors but
JD Gunn was up for the challenge. A strike with just about 15 minutes left was the best chance for QND but JD dove to his left and blocked the shot away in what QND thought would be the tying goal. The Warriors ended the game with a 2-1 victory to capture the bracket championship of the Go 4 Goal tournament. The two teams respected each other and the match was a good one. The Warriors move to 15-4 overall on the year and will try to capture the conference title on Tuesday evening on the road.
