The Wheaton Academy boys basketball team competed in the first two days of the second annual MLK Tournament at Burlington Central High School.
The Warriors opened the MLK tournament on Friday night facing off against Elgin. The Warriors saw eight different players enter the scoring column but lost 34-52.
On Saturday morning the Warriors kicked off day two of the Burlington Central MLK tournament with the 9:00 a.m. game against Marengo. It was a back a fourth contest as Marengo led by 13-12 and 29-26 after the first and second quarter respectively. It was the shooting from Senior,
Jameson Teuscher who led the Warriors in the first half with 11 points. Marengo would take a five point lead with a minute left before the Warriors would fight back. Junior,
JD Gunn had 15 fourth quarter points including a pair of free throws to tie the game and send it to overtime. Wheaton Academy had several good looks in overtime but could not get the ball to bounce their way and lost 63-60 to Marengo who will play in the championship game of the Burlington Central MLK tournament on Monday.
In their second game on Saturday the Warriors suffered a 46-75 loss to McHenry. Freshman,
Marcus Bult led the way for the Warriors with 12 points.
Wheaton Academy will be back in action on Monday, January 16 at 12:00 p.m. against Kaneland in a consolation game at the Burlington Central MLK tournament.
