On a cold, blustery Friday night at the end of a very rainy soccer game last week, my heart was warmed.
The winning team from Wheaton Academy was celebrating, and a defeated St. Charles East player was hanging his head in disappointment from the loss.
I noticed a Wheaton Academy player, Elias McCloud, break away from his joyful teammates and walk across the field to the East player, Jasminko Dizdarevic, who was crouched onto the ground.
McCloud consoled Dizdarevic and hugged him tight, as other Wheaton Academy players joined them.
The players were all teammates on a club team, away from their school teams.
It showed me the true meaning of the words sportsmanship and teammate.
