It was a rough night for the varsity Warriors from Wheaton Academy as they hosted the St. Edwards Green Wave. The most exciting point of the game was when the fire alarm went off with 3:04 left in the first quarter. Thankfully, there was no actual fire and the unintended break was a chance for the Warriors to get themselves heated up, having scored only 2 points at that point. Unfortunately, massive turnovers and hesitancy against the Green Wave zone defense produced only 4 points for the warriors in the first quarter. The second quarter was just as ugly with Warriors losing at the half, 10-20. The third quarter saw over two minutes pass before Wheaton could manage a basket, allowing St. Edwards to build their lead to 21 by the end of the third quarter, 20-41. Both teams finally put in their second and third string players half way through the fourth quarter to wrap up the game. Wheaton went on to lose its seventh straight game by a score of 37-56 and falling to 1-7 on the season. The entire team struggled to bring their normal hustle and energy as they appeared stifled and out of sync all game long.
The Sophomore and Freshman squads both played much better. The sophomores got off to a strong start and maintained a solid lead throughout the entire game. They led 41-28 at the half and went on to win the game 65-46. Freshman Jayston Williams moved up to play with the squad and led the team in scoring with 18 points. Two more freshman on the sophomore squad, Michael Callentine and
Mychale Hyland, also had strong performances for the night finishing with 15 and 12 points respectively. The freshman Warrior squad also performed well, winning by ten with the final score 46-36. The Warrior's next contests are scheduled for
Tuesday, December 16, at St. Viator.
