Warriors defeat ACC at Home

Wheaton Academy hosted SCC opponent Aurora Central Catholic in West Chicago on Saturday night and handed them a decisive 77-52 win. The Warriors outscored the Chargers in every quarter except the fourth led by the consistent and productive play of junior Josh Ruggles. Ruggles scored a game high 20 points, shooting 4-for-5 (80%) from behind the arc and 6-of-7 (86%) from the free throw line while distributing the ball to big men Bennett and Chandler Fuzak. 

The Warriors attacked Aurora Central Catholic's 2-3 zone the entire game and led by 21 points at the half, 48-27. The Chargers made a comeback attempt early in the third quarter, but a pair of Ruggles three-pointers and 6 points from Chandler Fuzak helped the Warriors stabalize their lead. 

Wheaton Academy shot 55% from the field for the night (30/54) and 30% from three point range (4/13). The Warriors caused ACC to turn the ball over 23 times, but was offset in part by 18 turnovers of their own for the game. The game saw a total of 49 fouls called between the two teams resulting in 49 free throw attempts. Wheaton Academy shot 56% from the free throw line (13/23) while the Chargers shot 20/26 (76%). 

Gordon Behr scored 10 points in just under 10 minutes of play for the Warriors and Chandler Fuzak, Ty Collins, and Bryce Sandberg each contributed 8 points. Christian Smith did a great job at the point, dishing out 5 assists. All team members saw good minutes on Saturday night in the win. 

Saturday night's win improves the Warriors' overall record to 6-2. The team will face Walther Christian Academy next week during final exam week on Tuesday night in Melrose Park at 7:30 PM before a final conference game on Saturday at Aurora Christian.
