West Chicago, IL--Wheaton Academy bounced back from Friday's loss to St. Francis with a decisive 82-59 win against the Eagles of Aurora Christian in the Warrior Dome on Saturday night. The Warriors' poor shooting from the previous night certainly did not carry over in this game, as the team shot the lights out—59% (28/47) from the field overall and an astonishing 64% (16/25) from behind the arc.
Wheaton Academy dominated the game from the start, outscoring Aurora Christian 27-8 in the first quarter, courtesy of a sharp-shooting
Collin Roy who made three 3-pointers, as well as
Brandon Ruggles, who heated up early with a pair of threes and a layup. The Eagles played their best 8 minutes of the night in the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors 21-19, but WA still had a 46-29 lead at the half.
Gordon Behr showed signs of life in the third quarter, catching fire from long range twice and adding a pair of field goals. Behr had a solid performance, finishing the night with 18 points, 4 blocks, and 5 rebounds.
Josh Ruggles went 3-for-4 from three point range and added a pair of free throws for 11 points, while
Gabe Partain and
Brandon Ruggles each added 10.
Collin Roy once again led all scores with 22, missing only one shot in the game (7/8, 87%) and dished out 6 assists.
Saturday's win against Aurora Christian breaks a two-game losing streak and improves the Warriors' record to 13-5 for the year. The team's next game will be next Friday, January 25 at home against Aurora Central Catholic.
