Cole Fritz provided a huge second quarter boost for the Warriors.
Hillside, IL— Crespi Carmelite (from Encino, California) advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament by defeating Wheaton Academy 74-61 in a Friday afternoon matinee.
Wheaton Academy (10-3) grabbed a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but Crespi Carmelite (8-5) came to life in the second quarter, outscoring Wheaton 28-17 to take a 35-31 lead at the half. Crespi continued its strong play in the third, outscoring Wheaton 24-11 to open up a 17-point lead. Wheaton Academy cut the deficit down to 10 points in the fourth quarter, but came no closer as Crespi pulled away for the 13-point win.
Crespi shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor, including 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from downtown. University of Virginia-bound London Perrantes led the charge, scoring 34 points while shooting 13-of-21 from the floor. Aaron Lacombe added 12 points for Crespi Carmelite.
Wheaton Academy finished the game shooting 46.2 percent (18-of-39) from the floor, including 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from downtown.
Collin Roy score 14 for Wheaton while
Gordon Behr added 10 points.
Brandon Ruggles totaled 13 rebounds and seven points.
The loss concludes the Warriors' participation in the 2012 Proviso West Holiday Tournament and drops the team's overall record to 10-3 on the season. The team will regroup next week before flying to North Carolina to play Cary Christian School on January 3 at 7:30 PM eastern time (game will be broadcast live on High School Cube).
