West Chicago, IL -- The Wheaton Academy varsity boys basketball team returned to action after a long absence from the Warrior Dome on Saturday night. After defeating Marmion last Friday on the road, the Warriors faced Walther Lutheran.
WA jumped out early on the Broncos in a 25-8 first quarter. Gordon Behr had an explosive 14-point first quarter en route to his game-high 22 points on the night. The Warriors extended that lead to a 44-19 advantage by half time and never looked back.
All players contributed in the 68-49 win for Wheaton Academy. Beyond Behr's 22 point performance, scoring was evenly distributed.
The win improves the team's record to 9-1 on the season. The Warriors will spend some time with their families during Christmas for a few days before returning to action in the prestigious Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
It is a great honor to be invited as it is the most prestigious basketball tournament in Illinois and the largest high school holiday tournament in the nation conducted under one roof. Over the last 50 years players such as Isiah Thomas, Doc Rivers, Jon Scheyer, and Kevin Garnett have played in the tournament, and it regularly hosts the top teams in the state. We would love to bring a big crowd to the event and show our tremendous school spirit.
Season ticket booklets, good for all 61 games of the tournament, are priced at $75, and session tickets are priced at $12 for all opening rounds and championship rounds. Tickets are only available at the Circle Drive Ticket Booth during the days of the event. (The online advance ticket sale option has ended.)
This year's six-day, 32-team tournament will begin on Saturday, December 22 and run through December 26-29 and conclude on December 31. Wheaton Academy will open on Wednesday, December 26, at 5:15 pm against Morgan Park who is currently ranked as the #3 team in the state.
