In a well fought match at Marmion Academy Wednesday night, the Warriors of Wheaton Academy left as outright Suburban Christian Conference Champs. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead with just 2:42 left in the match off of a PK by
Grant Stoneman. Marmion responded with a left footed strike to the upper corner with just about a minute to play.
The teams headed to overtime to decide who would leave as conference champs, as both teams entered the contest at 7-0 in conference play.
Casey Zimmerman found
Grant Stoneman who beat a defender and slotted the ball across the frame. Senior, captain,
Gareth Flynn found himself on the end of it. Flynn settled the driven ball and poked it into the side netting for the golden goal victory.
The Warriors finish the regular season at 16-6 with an 8-0 record in conference play. The Warriors will begin postseason play on Tuesday at University High School downtown. Attached is the Daily Herald Article below.
