For the second year Wheaton Academy boys swimmers attended the IHSA Boys High School Swimming Sectional Meet. This year it was held at Lyons Township in Western Springs on February 16th. The Lyons township location included 13 different high schools. In all WA had six swimmers this year in nine events overall, two of which were relays.
This year our boys swam great times in each of their events with a time drop in almost every race. Their 200 Medley Relay dropped over 10 seconds with a time of 1:44.71 (9th place) and their 200 Free Relay dropped 5 seconds with a time of 1:34.18 (8th place). A State cut in these events could be possible for them next year. Brendan Howley qualified for State with a 1st place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.95. He went on to State the following weekend at New Trier High School where he finished in 17th place overall. Brendan received All American Honors for his 100 Breaststroke time. He heads to Orlando Florida the week of March 11th for Junior Nationals. The fastest 18 and under meet in the country.
The Team looks forward to next year, recruiting more swimmers to join their group, and more State qualifying swims.
Special thanks to Kiernan Mack their Head Coach and to Mike Placeway their Assistant Coach.
