West Chicago, Ill. -- On a day more fitting for late November football than spring softball, Trinity (1-0) jumped to an 8-0 first-inning lead and never looked back en route to a 14-0 (5 inn.) victory over Wheaton Academy (1-2) at the WA Softball Field. The Blazers, who averaged 8.6 runs per game a year ago and advanced as far as the IHSA 4A sectional semifinals before losing 2-1 to York, substituted liberally but were still too much for the Warriors who committed six errors on the afternoon.Ā
Junior Brynisha Campbell (1-0) pitched the first two innings of the contest for Trinity and didn't allow a hit, while walking three and striking out four. She Ā gave way to Emely Martinez in the third stanza and the freshman allowed only only an infield single to WA sophomore Cassie Bonga, while striking out two. Courtney Kinnane (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Warriors. The sophomore allowed seven hits and issued eight walks. Kinnane did strike out five, including the side in the top of the fifth inning.Ā Ā
Rutgers commit Anyssa Iliopoulos helped lead the way for the Blazers as she was 3-for-3, including a double, with three runs scored. Leadoff hitter Alex Koziol was 2-for-4 with three runs score and an RBI, while senior Carly Vhlir hit a two-run home run as a pinch hitter with two outs in the third inning to extend Trinity's lead to 12-0.Ā

Wheaton Academy returns to action on April 4 when it travels to TimothyĀ Christian. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.Ā
