Background
The Wildhawks High School Hockey Club is together again for the 2012-2013 season as a combined club with players from Bartlett, Wheaton Academy, Wheaton North, West Chicago, and St. Francis high schools. The club has grown and will be fielding 3 teams this season, one varsity and two JV. The varsity and JV Blue will be in the West divison on the Illinois High School Hockey League. The JV White team will be in the Suburban divison. The regular league play runs from the beginning of October to the end of January. League playoffs are in February. State Championship tournament in March. All 3 teams are looking good and are ready for successful seasons. Informations on the teams can be found at
http://wildhawks.com . WA has 3 players this season. Sophmore Goalie Christian Kumpf #32 is on JV Blue. Sophmore Luke Lanham #15 and Freshman Jimmy Linnane #23 are on JV White.
Parade March
The Wildhawks kicked off the new season with marching in the Wheaton Labor Day 2012 parade. They marched for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago (
www.donateillinois.org). They handed out informational flyers, magnets, and candy to the crowd. Participants included Jacob Somen, Nick Wilson,
Christian Kumpf (WA) , Dino Parducci, Reese Stoneburner, Mac Evans, Jason Wiedmyer, Nikko Ebbole, and
Luke Lanham (WA).
JV Pow Wow Tournament
The JV Blue team played a pre-season JV tournament late September in Naperville sponsered by Waubonsie Valley high school. The JV Blue team beat the 12 team field to become the champions. Goalie Christian Kumpf had two shutouts in the five games played. The championship game against York high school went to a overtime and then a shootout before our team was victorious, 4-3.
Prairie Ridge Tournament
The JV Blue team was invited to the highly competitive tournament hosted by Prairie Ridge high school played November 8-11. The JV Blue team ended up ranked first in the 12 team field after the three game round robin play. They lost to Glenbrook North in the Semi-final game 5-2.
New Helmet
Goalie Christian Kumpf has a new goalie helmet. In true hockey goalie tradition, he had a custom paint job done to his own design. He added the WA school crest and the Christian fish symbol to it with pride. Additionally, the club had the school letters added (in school colors) to the one sleeve of each jersey to add some school pride for the players. <picture attached>
End of November update
With the seasons almost half over...the JV Blue team is in first place in West divison league play with a 12-1 record (20-4 overall). The JV White team was in second in Suburban divison league play with a 6-4 record (6-10 overall).
