Soccer Downs St Francis, Advances to Regional Final

May 19, 2022- The girls soccer team opened the 2022 postseason with a 2-1 win over rival St Francis on Wednesday night. Last year's 3rd place finish in the IHSA 1A tournament pushed the girls up to the 2A level for the 2022 season due to the state success factor. Wednesday's Regional Semi Final pitted the Warriors and Spartans against each other for the second time in 5 days. Last Friday, in the regular season finale, the Spartans took down the Warriors 2-1 at home to claim a share of the MSC Conference Championship. Wednesday was a different story. Senior goalkeeper Sara Swoboda made several big saves early to keep the game 0-0 before Sophomore Katleyn Schoepke connected on a volley from outside the box in the 29th minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 halftime lead. Halfway though the second half Lily Lebo doubled the lead with a finish from a Haleigh Manske free kick. The Spartans would answer within a minute to cut the lead back to 2-1. The girls did enough over the last 20 minutes to hang on and get the 2-1 win. The win advances the Warriors to the IHSA 2A Regional Final for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The 5th seeded Warriors will take on  3rd seeded Nazareth Academy at 4:30PM Friday at Nazareth Academy. Go Warriors!
