The Warriors capped off a fantastic season with an 8-1 victory on the road against Marmion. This season has been filled with strange weather on game days, so it was only fitting that the JV Boys would finish out the season on the windiest day yet. The Warriors were under early attack from Marmion and playing against the wind, but were able to hold off the initial effort. In the 3rd minute,
Luke Holwerda opened up the scoring after a nice run and cross from
DJ Pollino.
Luke Holwerda chipped the ball over the keeper into the far netting. Withing ten minutes,
Luke Holwerda scored is second goal of the evening and proceeded to assist the third goal.
Kade Clousing received the ball from
Luke Holwerda inside the box and managed to cut past and outmuscle several defenders before burying the shot. Just before halftime,
Kade Clousing unselfishly cut the ball back across the goal and Seamus Kilgallon finished to make it 4-0. At the start of the second half, Marmion were able to get a goal after plenty of help from the wind carried the ball awkwardly into the back of the net. However, the Warriors were able to rally. After having played a stellar season in the defensive line,
Jonathan Austriaco was given the opportunity to play as an outside midfielder for the final 25 minutes of the season. A few minutes after moving up the field,
Owen Hardy found
Jonathan Austriaco making a run and he was able to score his first goal of the season. A few minutes later,
Jonathan Austriaco struck again and brought the score to a 6-1 lead. With three minutes left in the game, Drew Dinaso made an excellent run in the center of the field and played the ball behind the defensive line.
Henry Huth tapped the ball into the path of Matt Novaria who had been charging in from the right wing. Matt Novaria buried the ball into the back of the net (and later asked his assistant coach to write about his goal in the recap so that his mother would be proud of him). In the final minute of the game, Matt Novaria nearly had an opportunity for a second goal, but the shot deflected to
Paul Bello who slid the ball into the goal and gave the Warriors an 8-1 victory.
The Warriors finished out their season with a record of 14-2-5, with their only two losses in regulation coming in their first two games of the season.
