Wheaton Academy soccer won the sectional title with a goal filled night against Burlington Central. The Warriors jumped out of the gate early to take a 1-0 lead off of a 20 yard strike by
Reid Culberson. Then the Warriors began to add to their lead as they overwhelmed Burlington with goals 2, 3, and 4 (
Ty Seager,
Casey Zimmerman, and
Sam Hardy) before the halftime break.
Casey Zimmerman added his second goal of the night to make the score 5-0 with about 30 minutes to play. Matt Ruff finished the scoring to give the Warriors the win by the score of 6-2.
The Warriors move on as one of eight teams remaining the the IHSA 2A playoffs. The Sectional is the second in as many years and allows the Warriors to move on to the Dekalb Super Sectional. The Warriors will face the winner of the Morton/Peoria Notre Dame match that will be played on Saturday night. Peoria Notre Dame is the reigning state champ of 2A soccer.
The Warriors are now 21-3-1 overall.
