Girls Tennis Concludes Season Finish 5th out of 10 at Sectional Posted on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 @ 5:06 AM Wheaton Academy Girl's Tennis team finished in 5th place out of 10 teams in a highly competitive sectional at St. Charles East High School. The Warriors played very well, but ran into top seeds in the 3rd round of competition. Congratulations to doubles team of Kendra Kosirog/Eva Sedjo who pulled out a thrilling 3 set victory in the second round 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, and to Stephanie Taylor who played a stellar match to upset Glenbard North in the second round 6-3, 6-2. Both Emmy Gaffey and Lizzy Westrope/Elizabeth Gielow lost very close 3-set matches in the first round. It was a strong ending to a great season for the Warriors! Girl's Tennis Wins PSL Championship Finishes first in last ever PSL tournament Posted on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 @ 1:54 PM The Varsity Girl's tennis team took first place in the PSL Championship tournament on Saturday bringing the title back to Wheaton Academy after two years of 2nd place finishes. This championship was extra special because it will be the last PSL championship awarded, since the league is disbanding after this season. The Warriors had a phenomenal day of tennis! Every player came ready to play with a "refuse to lose" mentality. In 3 different flights the warriors beat a team they had not beaten during the regular season, earning them a higher finish than they were seeded. Kendra Kosirog and Eva Sedjo completed their undefeated run through the PSL by winning the PSL championship at 1st Doubles. Kelly Adair and Lizzy Westrope knocked off a previously undefeated Timothy Christian team to win the PSL championship at 3rd Doubles. Emmy Gaffey survived a marathon 3+ hour match in the first round and finished in 2nd place at 2 singles. Natalie Van Beek and Elizabeth Gielow upset the #2 seeded Timothy Christian team in the first round to advance to the championship round, finishing in 2nd place at 2nd Doubles. Stephanie Taylor had a huge win against Walther Lutheran for 3rd place at 1st Singles. In Exhibition play Emma Malone and Callie Brown finished 3rd place at 4th doubles. Warriors vs. St. Francis The Warriors lost to Wheaton St. Francis on Thursday 5-0. After a slow start the girls played very well with a number of very close 2nd sets. The Warriors were not able to withstand a well-prepared Timothy Christian team on Wednesday, losing a close, tough match 3-2. Emily Gaffey pulled out another close match 7-6 (14-12!), 6-3 at 2nd Singles, and Kendra Kosirog and Eva Sedjo won 6-3, 6-4 to stay undefeated in conference play at 1st Doubles. This loss resulted in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the regular season with Timothy, Illiana, and Wheaton Academy. We are looking forward to the PSL tournament to decide the PSL champion. Warriors Take Down Illiana Remain Undefeated Posted on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at 1:13 PM The Warriors remain undefeated in the PSL conference after beating Illiana on Tuesday evening. It was an incredibly exciting match with Emmy Gaffey coming from behind 2-5 in the 3rd set to pull out a phenomenal win in the deciding match 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. It was a great win for the girls, who put their PSL championship hopes on the line today against Timothy Christian. Overall Record: 7-6-4 Conference: 3-0

Warriors Play Well in Invite Take First Place at Glenbard North tournament Posted on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at 1:38 PM The Girl's Varsity Tennis Team won 1st place in the Glenbard North Varsity Invite on Saturday. The Warriors had a fantastic showing at an event they haven't won in a number of years. The Round-Robin tournament included Glenbard North, South Elgin, and cross-town rival West Chicago. It was a true "team" effort with no player winning their flight, but every player playing great and winning enough matches to narrowly beat out Glenbard North for the Championship. Warriors Tie Trinity Led by doubles tandems. Posted on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at 12:17 PM The Varsity girl's tennis team battled to a tie against a very good Trinity High School team on Thursday. The Warriors were led by the continuing strong play of their doubles tandems. Kendra Kosirog and Eva Sedjo pulled out a close first set in a tie-breaker before winning the match easily 6-2 in the second set. Liz Gielow and Natalie Van Beek won convincingly 6-2, 6-3. Varsity Tennis Loses Nail-biter Almost wins without #1 singles player Posted on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at 12:17 PM The Varsity girl's tennis team fought hard, but lost a nail-biter to IMSA on Tuesday. The team almost escaped with a win without their #1 singles player, Steph Taylor. All three doubles matches went three sets, and the warriors pulled out 2 of the 3 matches at 1st and 2nd Doubles. Great job by Emmy Gaffey and Callie Brown to step into the #1 and #2 singles positions for the day! Overall Record: 4-6-1 Conference: 2-0

Warriors lose to Lake Forest Academy Beaten 5-0 by a very tough team Posted on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at 1:56 PM The Warriors Varsity Girl's tennis team played well, but lost 5-0 to a very good Lake Forest Academy team on Saturday. Many of the sets were close, and it was great to be challenged by a team that played so aggressively. Warriors Sweep Chicago Christian Varsity Tennis Wins 4th Straight Posted on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at 12:04 PM The Warriors took their brooms over to Palos Heights on Tuesday to sweep their PSL rival Chicago Christian. The Warriors aggressive play was too much for the Knights to handle, as the Varsity Girls won their 4th straight match on Tuesday. Every player won convincingly to complete the sweep 5-0. Warriors Knock Off Montini Win 3rd straight in dual competition Posted on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at 1:35 PM The Warriors played a great match against a future conference opponent on Thursday, knocking off Montini Catholic 4-1. It was the Warriors 3rd straight win in dual competition. The win was highlighted by the 3rd Doubles tandem of Lizzy Westrope and Kelli Adair's dominating 6-0, 6-0 win. 1st Doubles tandem Kendra Kosirog and Eva Sedjo continued their hot streak with a 6-2, 6-1 win, and Steph Taylor played some of her best tennis of the year to win 6-4, 6-1. All 4 doubles teams posted a victory, but the singles could not finish their matches because of lightning. The girls hope to start a win streak Thursday against IMSA. Unfortunately we were not able to pull out any of the matches and began our season with a humbling 0-6 loss.
