Vento Advances to State Finals Senior Elio Vento will represent WA at the IHSA State Golf Championship in Bloomington this Friday and Saturday. In yesterday's Sectional Tournament, Elio led his teammates by shooting a score of 76 which qualified him to play in the State Finals. Jack Anderson shot 78 while Lars Olson and Zack Spear both shot scores of 79. The 312 total was one stroke too high to qualify for the team competition at the Finals.
Golf Team Advances to Sectional The Golf Team placed second, just one stroke behind Marmion Academy, at the IHSA Regional Championship, held at Highlands of Elgin Golf Course. The Warriors were led by Elio Vento as he shot a score of 75, good for second place overall. Lars Olson shot 76 which placed him fourth overall. Jack Anderson shot 78 and Danny Gryfinski shot 86 to complete the scoring for the Warriors. Wheaton Academy will host a Sectional Tournament on October 10 at our home course, Pheasant Run.
Golf Team Wins Conference For the second time in three years, the Golf Team has won the SCC Conference Championship. Jack Anderson led the team through difficult weather circumstances with a two-day total of 155. This score placed him third among the 72 competitors. Lars Olson and Danny Gryfinski were named to the all-conference team with respective total scores of 163 and 164. Kenneth Mill shot 84 to complete the scoring on Friday. On Saturday, Elio Vento posted a score of 87 as fourth best for the team. The next competition for the Warriors will be the IHSA Regional Championship on Tuesday at The Highlands of Elgin Golf Course.
Golf Team Wins Final Match Playing at St. Charles Country Club, the Golf Team won its final match of the season over St. Francis by a score of 165 to 172. Danny Gryfinski led all players with a score of 39. Jack Anderson and Elio Vento both shot 40. Lars Olson completed the scoring for the Warriors with a 44. Focus now shifts to the tournament season with the Conference championship beginning with the Conference Championship on Friday and Saturday at St. Andrews Golf Course.
Golfers Win on Senior Night Playing in their final dual match at Pheasant Run Resort, seniors played in the first five positions as the Warriors defeated West Chicago H.S. by a score of 164 to 185. The conditions were difficult as the players had to battle high winds, rain, and flooded conditions over much of the course. Despite these conditions, Jeremy Berg had his best outing of the season as he tied Lars Olson for medalist honors with a score of three over par 40. Jack Anderson and Elio Vento completed the scoring for Warriors, each shooting scores of 42. On Wednesday, the Warriors travel to St. Charles Country Club to close out the regular season with a match against St. Francis. On Friday and Saturday, the Golf Team will compete in the SCC Championship Tournament in a 36-hole event at St. Andrews Golf Course in West Chicago.
Golf Team Wins Over ACC Playing at Phllips Park in Aurora, the Golf Team notched its seventh win of the season over Aurora Central Catholic by a score of 158 to 168. Leading the way for the Warriors was Danny Gryfinski who shot a season's best score of 37. Lars Olson was next in scoring with a 39. Despite an unfortunate bounce off a tree on the final hole that led to a two stroke penalty, Elio Vento managed to shoot 40. Jack Anderson and Karsten Hultgren tied for fourth place with scores of 42 each. Next week, the Golf Team will play in its final two matches of the season and the Conference Tournament.
Golf Team Wins Sixth Match Playing at the difficult Royal Hawk Country Club in St. Charles, the Golf Team raised its match record to 6-1 by defeating Marmion Academy 166 to 177. Lars Olson was medalist with a score of three-over-par 40. Jack Anderson and Elio Vento each shot 41 and Danny Gryfinski completed the scoring with a 44.
Golfers Lose to Marian Central With four players that betterered or equaled the best that Wheaton Academy could offer, the Hurricanes from Marian Central Catholic easily defeated the Warriors by a score of 155 to 167. This was the first loss of the season for the WA golfers and the will seek to return to their winning ways today against Marmion Academy, another conference opponent.
Golfers Finish Fourth at ACC The Golf Team finished fourth in a field of twenty-two teams at the Aurora Central Catholic Invitational. Jack Anderson led the scoring for the Warriors by firing a 78 that placed him in eighth place in a field of 132 golfers. Lars Olson and Elio Vento each short scores of 80 and Danny Gryfinski completed the scoring with an 82.
Golfers Win 3rd Straight WC Invite The Golf Team won the West Chicago Invitational for the third consecutive year. Held at St. Andrews Country Club with a field of nine schools, the Warriors shot a score of 314. Jack Anderson not only led the Warriors, he was first in the field of 54 players with a score of one-under-par 71. Elio Vento placed fourth overall with a score of 78. Lars Olson placed fifth in the field with a score of 79. Danny Gryfinski completed the scoring with 86. Next up for the Golf Team is the Aurora Central Catholic Invitational on Saturday, September 17.
Golfers Win in Difficult Conditions In high winds and falling temperatures, the Golf Team won its fifth consecutive match of this season over Aurora Christian by a score of 157 to 176. Elio Vento led the competition with a score of one-over-par 37. Lars Olson and Jack Anderson added a pair of 39's while Ken Mill completed the scoring with a 42.
Golfers Post Fourth Victory of Season Playing against a young Glenbard North team, the Warriors won easily by a score of 151 to 179. Lars Olson led all players with a score of One-over-par 36. Elio Vento was close behind with a score of 37, then Danny Gryfinski at 38 and Jack Anderson completed the scoring with a 40. The next comptetiton will be Marmion Academy at Pheasant Run on September 7.
WA Places 2nd in Annual Wheaton Cup In the sixth annual golf tournament featuring the four high schools with "Wheaton" in their names, the Warriors finished in second place. In the history of this competition, the Warriors have now placed second a total of three times. In the other three years, WA has earned the top spot. Leading the Warriors this year were Jack Anderson and Danny Gryfinski as both shot scores of 73 and tied for second place overall. Elio Vento shot 76 and Lars Olson completed the scoring with a score of 82. The team total of 304 was the second lowest tournament score for this season.
Golfers Gain Satisfying Victory A year ago, the Green Tide from St. Edward ended the Warriors 42-match winning streak. This year, at the season's home opener, the tables were turned. Led by Senior Jack Anderson's score of 37, the Warriors were victorious by a score of 156 to 161. Lars Olson was second with a score of 39 while Elio Vento and Danny Gryfinski posted a pair of 40's.
Golfers Win on Difficult Course Playing at the newly opened and difficult Chicago Highlands Country Club, the scores were higher than normal but the Warriors were still victorious over Montini 173 to 185. Jack Anderson won medalist honors with a score of four-over-par 40. Danny Gryfinski finished in second place with a score of 43. Lars Olson and Elio Vento completed the scoring for WA, each shooting a score of 45.
Seniors Take Contrio in Season's First Golf Match In its first match of the 2011 season, the Warrior Golf Team was led by four seniors. Lars Olson led all players by shooting a score of even-par 35. Elio Vento and Jack Anderson fired a pair of 37's and Joe Duncan completed the scoring with a 41. With this leadership, the Warriors easily handled the Knights from Chicago Christian with a final score of 150 to 171.
Golfers Enjoy Successful First Week The Golf Team began competing as quickly as IHSA rules allowed, participating in four tournaments. On Monday, August 15, the Warriors placed first at the Aurora Christian Earlybird Scramble. Tuesday, the team travelled to Bloomington to play in the Redbird/Raider Invitational and finished in 6th place out of 22 teams. Lars Olson led the Warriors with a score of 75. Wednesday, the team finished 3rd in a very strong Raider Classic field. Elio Vento led the Warriors with a score of 73. Thursday, at Glen Oak Country Club, the team finish in 2nd place out of 13 teams. Again, the team was led by Elio Vento, this time with a score of 76. The Golf Team begins its dual match season on August 22 with a match against Chicago Christian.
Golfer Jack Anderson wins IJGA Regional Tournament Wheaton Academy senior golfer produced a 2-under-par 69 to win the final Illinois Junior Golf Association regional of the summer in the boys 16-18 division. The round marked the first time Anderson has ever broken 70, or won an IJGA event, despite getting close to a few titles this summer.
