Golf Team Co-State Champions!

Biddle and Flynn Finish Top 10!

The Wheaton Academy Golf Team capped a terrific season by capturing the State Championship on Saturday, October 17. At the end of Friday’s first day of competition, the Warriors found themselves in second place but only one stroke behind the leader. At their meeting that evening, the team agreed that the championship was there for the taking and, if they would play at the level they had achieved all season, the title would belong to Wheaton Academy. After nine holes had been completed by all competitors on Saturday, the Warriors had turned a one-stroke deficit into an eight-stroke advantage. Then, something unexplainable happened. For the first tournament all season, the Warriors didn’t play as well over the second nine as they had on the first. Because of the excellent play over the front nine holes, however, the stumble on the back did not keep the Warriors from earning the title of State Champions. Seniors David Flynn and Blake Biddle earned all-state honors, placing sixth and eighth respectively in the individual competition. Others competing for Wheaton Academy were seniors Jeff Berg, Jay Gulbransen, CJ Urbanowski and sophomores Lars Olson and Elio Vento. The State Championship title caps a season filled with achievement. Team scoring records were set for both nine-hole matches and eighteen-hole tournaments. The records now stand at ten-under-par 130 for matches and at two-under-par 282 for tournaments. Blake Biddle also set two individual scoring records of 29 for nine holes and 63 for eighteen holes. The team record for matches was a perfect 10 – 0, extending the winning streak that began in 2006 to 40. The team also won eight tournaments, including Conference, Regional, Sectional and State Championships. CONGRATULATIONS WARRIORS FOR A SEASON TO REMEMBER!
