The Daily Herald listed their final season rankings for the area teams and Wheaton Academy, coming off of their 28 win season, finished 8th in the area. Final Rankings. The Lady Warriors finished off their season, falling to Montini Catholic 55-38 in the Sectional Championship. During the 2008-09 season, the girls set the basketball record for wins in a seaon at 28 and best winning percentage, at .933. Daily Herald Summary of Sectional Championship

The PSL announced the All-Conference Basketball Players and two Lady Warriors were named to the team. Alexa Sharkey and Jen Lee were named all conference. In addition, Beth Mitchell was named Girls Basketball PSL Coach of the Year. Congratulations!

IHSA Regional Champions!!

Lady Warriors Win first Regional in 10 Years

For the first time in 10 years, the Lady Warriors will be moving onto the Sectional Tournament. On Thursday night, Wheaton Academy defeated Chicago Hope 66-52 to claim the Regional Championship. The Warriors capitalized at the line, making their first 13 free throws, and made 32 of 37 free throws for the game. Hope made a charge and closed the gap to a 4 point game before some stellar defense by Leah Fortune, Alexa Sharkey, and Meghan Grant stopped the Lady Eagles. The girls will put their 27-1 mark on the line in the Sectional Semi-Final on Monday evening at 8pm. Daily Herald Article

Alexa Sharkey recorded a triple double leading the Lady Warriors to their 25th win of the season. Sharkey scored 24 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and had 11 steals. Meghan Grant and Kristine Egebrecht added 8 points and 6 rebounds each. The 25 wins continues to add to the record for most wins in a season by the a Lady Warriors team. Their first game of the IHSA Regional tournament is on Tuesday night at 6:00pm against Chicago Lindblom.

On Thursday the girls finished their PSL schedule with a perfect 8-0 record defeating Chicago Christian 49-40. The Girls win the PSL Conference Championship for the first time since 1999. Jennifer Lee led all scorers with 15 points. Alexa Sharkey added 12 points and 7 rebounds while Sydney Sharkey contributed 11 points.

On Friday night, the Varsity Girls won 49-28 over Timothy Christian to win their 21st game of the year. Timothy Christian started out strong, but a quick 6 points midway through the first quarter started the momentum shift, and the Ladies never looked back. Meghan Grant and Jen Lee both scored 14 points to lead the Warriors. The win guarantees the Ladies at least a share of the PSL Championship. Daily Herald Article

Alexa Sharkey was name the Daily Herald Week 9 MVP. Over the past 21 games, Sharkey helped lead the Warriors to a 20-1 record. They will be playing again this evening at 6:00pm at the Warrior Dome. Read Daily Herald MVP Listing

Defeat Second Ranked Class 1A Newark

For the 20th time in 21 games, the Lady Warriors came out on the winning side of the scoreboard, defeating Newark 54-45. With that win, the Warriors moved to 20-1 on the season. Alexa Sharkey led all scorers with 17 points. Leah Fortune added 14 points and 6 steals while Meghan Grant recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Daily Herald Article. The WA girls are ranked #14 in the latest Daily Herald Top Teams poll! View the top 20 here.The girls then went out to defeat defending PSL Champion Walther Lutheran 51-43. Alexa Sharkey had 20 points and 6 steals while Leah Fortune had 2 key steals in the final couple minutes of the game. The Daily Herald has a complete wrap-up.

The WA girls basketball team goes undefeated on their trip to Florida, defeating The First Academy 60-49. Jennifer Lee lead the Warriors with 15 points and 8 rebounds while Alexa Sharkey contributed 14 points.

Girls Basketball won the first game of their Winterim trip to Orlando Florida defeating The Master's Academy 53-42. Jennifer Lee led all scorers with 18 points. Alexa Sharkey added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The girls will be serving meals in the "Daily Bread" program at the Christian Service Center on Wednesday, January 14th and will be back in action on Thursday, January 15th when they play The First Academy.

Girls Basketball remains undefeated in the PSL defeating Luther South 61-30. Jennifer Lee lead all scorers with 14 points, Alexa Sharkey added 9 points and 6 rebounds and Leah Fortune dished out 6 assists and had 8 steals. The girls will be playing another PSL game at Chicago Christian this Saturday before heading to Florida for two games next week.

The Lady Warriors continued their torrid play over Christmas Break. Entering the Lisle Christmas Tournament, WA came in with a 9-0 record. The Warriors started off by defeating North Lawndale, then the next day, defeated St. Francis for the second time this season. The third game of the tournament against Coal City was the first loss for the Warriors and snapped their 11 game winning streak. However, the following day against St. Edwards, the Warriors got back to their winning ways by defeating St. Edwards in the 3rd place game 57-42.

The Girls Basketball team continues to find a way to win. After finding themselves down to Wheaton North into the 4th quarter, the Warriors came back and claimed their 8th straight victory to open the season. In the end, the Wheaton Academy defeated Wheaton North 52-46. Alexa Sharkey led the Warriors with 13 points, and Jen Lee had 10 points, inlcuding 7 in the 4th quarter as well as a 3-pointer than gave the Warriors the lead. Read the Daily Herald Article. The Girls Basketball team is off to one of the best starts in school history with a 7-0 record. Their first conference win came Thursday night as the Lady Warriors defeated Iliana 65-50. Jennifer Lee led all scorers with 18 points while Alexa Sharkey added 17 points. The Lady Warriors will host Wheaton North on Saturday, December 13th @ 7:45pm.

Off to one of the best starts in the program's history, the Girls Varsity basketball team moved to 6-0 on the season with a 62-47 victory over St. Francis. The Warriors started the second half on a 12-2 run that helped put the game out of reach. Jen Lee scored 17 points, while Meghan Grant and Kristine Engebrect combined for over 20 rebounds. The Lady Warriors beat Lisle 43-20 to keep their record perfect on the season (5-0). Alexa Sharkey recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kristine Egebrecht scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. The Lady Warriors will play their home-opener on Saturday, Dec 6th 3:00pm against Wheaton St. Francis. Girls Varsity Wins Somanauk Tourney

The Girls Basketball team won the Somanauk Tournament defeating Sandwich HS in the final game 55-35. The Lady Warriors had 4 players in double figures. Jennifer Lee scored 14 pts and had 4 steals and 3 assists. Alexa Sharkey scored 13 points with 5 rebounds and 7 steals. Sydney Sharkey added 13 points and 4 steals. Meghan Grant contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The team takes a 4-0 record into the Thanksgiving Break and will see action next on Tuesday, December 2 when they play @ Lisle HS 7:30pm.

The Wheaton Academy Varsity Girls Basketball team won a big defensive battle on Thursday night. The low scoring contest was close all four quarters. The Warriors led at halftime 14-11, but went into the fourth quarter down 25-23. Alexa Sharkey led the scoring for WA with 10 pts. She also had 3 steals and 6 rebounds . Jennifer Lee added 8 pts to help the Lady Warriors earn their third victory of the season. Their next game is at 5:00 tonight against Sandwich in their final game of the Somanauk Tournament.
