Wheaton Academy is pleased to announce that Beth Mitchell has been hired as Counselor and varsity girls’ basketball coach. Mitchell comes to Wheaton Academy from the College of DuPage (COD) where she held similar positions.
As the Associate Head Coach, Mitchell helped lead the COD women’s basketball program to two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national championships. During Mitchell’s tenure as head coach at COD, her teams placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and last year 5th in NJCAA national tournaments. She is a passionate, high-energy coach who will bring enthusiasm to the Warrior basketball program. Wheaton Academy Principal/Chief Operating Officer Jon Keith says of Mitchell, “While she is accustomed to being a part of very successful programs, we value her perspective that athletics is also an opportunity for personal and spiritual development that provides life-shaping experiences. We anticipate the strong leadership Coach Mitchell will give our girls’ basketball program.”
Mitchell will serve as a resource for Wheaton Academy students and parents in her role as Counselor. At COD, she has worked with thousands of teenagers in the areas of personal counseling, career testing and life planning, academic intervention and educational planning. Her role at WA will involve many of the same areas. She holds an M.S. degree in Human Services – Counseling from National-Louis University and is a member of the American Counseling Association. Mitchell has a reputation for building relationships and going the extra mile to help students succeed. “We look forward to adding a female counselor to our team as we seek to strengthen our student support resources,” says Keith, “We look forward to her significant impact on our students’ lives.”
Mitchell will be on campus during June to assist with academic registration work and she will also lead the Wheaton Academy Girls’ Basketball Camps this summer.
