Send FIVE Athletes to State Tournament

The boys tennis team has done something never before done at Wheaton Academy - FIVE athletes will be represented at the state finals. Senior Mark Phillips was third in the sectional and will be going down for singles. And both doubles teams Devin Moore/Charles West and Danny Torres/Carson Boyd) qualified by finishing second and third place respectively. Overall, WA finished 2nd in the sectional behind St. Charles North. The state tennis tournament begins on Thursday at 10am.

Action Packed Matches win Final PSL Tourney

The varsity boys tennis team came away with a thrilling first place victory at the PSL tournament this past weekend. All the doubles teams were seeded first, and all the doubles guys finished the tournament as champions - Charles West and Devin Moore (1st doubles), Danny Torres and Carson Boyd (2nd doubles), and Sam Morgan and Connor Reilly (3rd doubles). The singles players, Mark Phillips and Justin Bertsche, both came in third, but both had very pressured victories in their last match to seal the PSL championship. Their efforts, combined with the great doubles play, helped Wheaton Academy finish first in boys tennis for the last PSL tournament.

The doubles combo of Devin Moore and Charles West defeated a strong, highly-ranked doubles team from Rockford Guilford (Park/Roos). It took three sets to finally win on Saturday, but the reward was great. They not only took the St. Charles East title, but also got respect from a very good Rockford Guilford team. Moore/West move to 10-0 on the season. The next home match is on Thursday against Walther Lutheran.

Wheaton Academy boys tennis had an incredible win versus a very talented IMSA team. Supported by Gary Sheng, IMSA regularly wins their sectional and qualifies multiple levels down state. For the Warriors, both the second and third doubles teams were asked to play up one level.. Boyd/Torres won in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 while Reilly/Morgan had an impressive win of 6-4, 6-2 at 2nd doubles. IMSA's top spot was at first singles. Devin Moore was asked to leave his doubles partner, Charles West, for one match and play singles against a state qualifier. Devin controlled every aspect of the match and won impressively 6-4, 6-3. The boys won overall 4-1 on the day, and moved ahead to 8-0 on the season. The Warriors play Chicago Christian tomorrow away, then come to the St. Charles East invitational on Saturday (start time of 9am).

In a day of rain, Wheaton Academy boys tennis managed to record four points in the eventual suspended match against Bartlett High School. The boys scored 4 points, all in doubles. All won easily, with first and third doubles remaining undefeated on the season. The first doubles combo of Devin Moore and Charles West recorded their 7th straight win, beating a strong doubles team that had been previously been undefeated. The Warriors move to 7-0 (1-0). The boys play IMSA next, at 4:45pm at IMSA.
