Warrior Soccer Players Honored

The Warrior Soccer players received a variety of honors as the year finished. Those named to the Suburban Christian Conference All Conference team included Brian McLean, Josh Urban, Frank Della Torre, Mark Rougas and Jesse Carmody. In addition to conference awards Brian McLean was named an IHSSCA All Sectional Player and Kane County Chronicle All Area Player. Finally, Josh Urban was awarded as an IHSSCA All Sectional Honorable Mention player and a Daily Herald All Area player. Congratulations to these young men on a great season of play and leadership at Wheaton Academy.

Warriors Fall

Wheaton Academy fell to the Spartans of St. Francis by the score of 4-3. After a valiant comeback the Warriors tied the game at 3-3 before giving up the final goal with under 2 minutes to play. The Warriors end the season at 14-7-3.

Boys' Soccer to Regional Finals

The Warriors scored 4 first half goals on their way to a 6-0 victory to advance to the Regional Finals on Saturday. The team committed to keeping possession throughout the game and found the net at the same time. The Warriors were led with 2 goals for Flynn and 2 goals for Zimmerman. The Regional Finals will be at 6pm at Wheaton Academy on Saturday evening.

Warriors Close Season with Tie

The Wheaton Academy Warriors produced several chances throughout the cross town rivalry game against Wheaton South. Zeb Lewis scored the first goal before South responded with their own in the second half. The tie concludes the regular season and leaves the Warriors at 13-6-3 on the year. The Warriors host Regionals on Tuesday at 4:30pm.

Warriors Fall

The Warrior soccer team lost to Marian Central Catholic in a 1-0 decision on a PK called with 3 seconds left in the first half. Marian Central defended for most of the 2nd half but did succeed in keeping the Warriors off of the board. The Warriors move to 13-6-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The Warriors are back in action for Senior Night tomorrow against Wheaton Warrenville South.

Soccer Wins on Homecoming Weekend

The Warriors enjoyed a beautiful night with hundreds of Wheaton Academy alumni at the Boys' Soccer game. The game was paced by 2 goals from Senior captain Frank Della Torre as the Warriors took a 4-1 victory over Hampshire. The night concluded with fireworks in celebration of homecoming weekend. The Warriors are now 13-5-2 and finish up conference play on Wednesday against Marian Central Catholic.

Warriors Win Classic Game

The crowd brought an intensity to the game that nearly matched the intensity of the Marmion and Wheaton Academy rivalry on Monday night. Both teams battled back and forth in an effort to take the lead in the conference standings. The two teams came in with nearly identical records and put together a game that pleased the crowd. Marmion scored with under 4 minutes to play in the game to take a 1-0 lead. Less that 50 seconds later, the Warriors responded as Brian McLean dropped a through ball to Gareth Flynn who slotted the ball to an incoming Casey Zimmerman who buried that ball in the back of the net. The tie lasted through two overtimes and sent the teams into PKs. Warrior goalkeeper Jesse Carmody came up huge with two big saves on the first and third shot by Marmion. The Warriors made each of their PKs and Mark Rougas finished it off to capture the victory. The game showed that both teams are seeking to make a run in the postseason. The Warriors move to 12-5-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference. Wheaton Academy is back in action on Friday night at 8pm for their homecoming game against Hampshire.

Warriors Take 2nd in Mid State Classic

After a tough loss to open the tournament the Warriors closed the two day tournament with a 3-0 victory over Evanston in Springfield, IL. The win, and shutout, preserved 2nd place for the Warriors at the Mid State Classic. Casey Zimmerman provided the hat trick as the Warriors took control of a strong Evanston team who is ranked number 1 in their 3A Sectional. The Warriors move to 11-5-2 on the year moving into the final 2 weeks of the regular season. Jesse Carmody provided the shutout for the Warriors.

Warriors Bounce Back

The Warriors bounced back and put together a great win over Quincy Notre Dame. The win shifted the momentum of the tournament and put the boys back in the win column. The 1-0 win against a strong Quincy ND team came with a goal from Casey Zimmerman and an assist from Gareth Flynn.

Warriors Lose to Sacred Heart

The Warriors gave up four second half goals and lost the opening game of the Mid State Classic, 4-0. The Boys put together a great first half but were unable to finish. The wind and efficient finishing helped Sacred Heart win the second half in convincing fashion.

Warrior Soccer Wins

The Boys' of Wheaton Academy won another conference game to move to 6-0 in conference and 9-4-2 overall. The Warriors defeated Guerin Prep by the score of 8-0. The team now travels to Springfield for the weekend to play in the Mid State Classic. The weekend will include games against Springfield Sacred Heart, Quincy Notre Dame, and Evanston.

Soccer Game Rescheduled

Due to bad field conditions, Marian Central Catholic has rescheduled the Boys' Soccer conference match to Wednesday, Oct. 12. The games (JV and Varsity) will still be at 4:30pm at Marian Central Catholic.

Boys' Soccer Wins

The Warriors of Wheaton Academy took control of the game early against conference opponent Chicago Christian on Saturday night. The game included a tribute to the 20 orphans Wheaton Academy has chosen to support this year in Haiti. The boys wore different warm-up shirts in honor of the night and then got rolling in the first half with four goals. The final score was 6-0 behind two goals from Zimmerman, two goals from Della Torre, one from Rougas and a final by Cairncross. The Warriors continue conference play on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. Jesse Carmody posted the shutout for the Warriors.

Warriors Remain Undefeated in Conference

Wheaton Academy defeated St. Ed's by the score of 8-0. Brian McLean led the Warriors with a couple of goals and kept the boys undefeated in conference play this year. The Warriors host Chicago Christian on Saturday night at 6:30pm in the first annual Haiti Awareness Night. Please come out and support the Warriors.

Warriors Give Up Goal

On Monday night, Wheaton Academy and Wheaton North played to a 1-1 tie. The Warriors gave up a 2nd half goal and squandered the lead off of a first half PK by Josh Urban. The Warriors now move on to 4 conference games in a row before heading to Springfield for the Mid State Classic.

Warriors Miss Out

The Warriors couldn't put Washington away despite a variety of dangerous opportunities on Saturday at the Pepsi Showdown. Washington converted their one opportunity while the Warriors couldn't find the net. The Warriors controlled a majority of the play and took 15 shots throughout the afternoon match. The boys are back in action on Monday night at 5:00pm at Wheaton North.

Warriors Fall to St. Charles North

Wheaton Academy Boys Soccer lost to a talented St. Charles North team by the score of 3-1. The Warriors missed to the presence of two starters and will be without center back Adam Hunt for another 2-3 weeks. The Warriors are back in action against Washington for the final game of the Pepsi on Saturday at 4pm at Lyons Township High School. The Warriors goal was scored by Casey Zimmerman and assisted by Frank Della Torre.

WA Adds Another

The Warriors added another conference victory and move to 6-2-1 on the year. On a beautiful night in West Chicago, Wheaton Academy defeated St. Francis by the score of 3-1 to move to 3-0 in conference play. The Warriors were powered by 2 goals from Gareth Flynn and move towards a strong St. Charles North team on Thursday night at 6:30pm.

Late Goal Helps Warriors

The Warriors traveled up to Lyons Township for the annual Pepsi Showdown Tournament on Saturday. They came away with the victory over Fenwick High School in a high scoring affair. The Warriors had goals from Rougas, McLean, Flynn and then a game winner from Rougas. Fenwick found the net on 3 breakaway attempts, all finishing in goals. The final goal from Rougas came with just under 6 minutes to play. WA moves to 5-2-1 and will be back in action on Tuesday night, at home, against conference opponent St. Francis.

Warriors Close Out Streamwood

Wheaton Academy defeated Streamwood on Thursday night at WA. Gareth Flynn scored off of a slotted ball by Josh Urban to get the squad on the board. Then the Warriors tallied 2 goals in the final minute of the half. Gareth Flynn scored his second by dropping a volley into the far netting and then Bryan Cairncross closed the half with a goal off of a Flynn pass. Streamwood did not quit, bring numbers forward in the second half. After netting 2 goals, Warrior goalkeeper Jesse Carmody finished off the win to take the Warriors to 4-2-1 overall. The Warriors will continue their play in the Pepsi Showdown on Saturday at Lyons Township.

Pepsi Ends in Disappointment

The Boys entered the Pepsi Showdown in search of an upset win against undefeated Oak Park River Forest and left with a 2-1 loss in the city. OPRF scored one minute into the game off of a set piece from the right wing. The Warriors responded beautifully, controlling the flow of play in the half. Mark Rougas tallied his 6th goal of the year off of Gareth Flynn's 8th assist. The second half featured chances for both teams with OPRF sending numbers forward on a regular basis. With just under 8 minutes to play, OPRF took the lead. Two minutes later Casey Zimmerman hit a shot off the keeper then hit the rebound off of the post. OPRF escaped the final five minutes and advances in the Pepsi Showdown bracket play. The Warriors will be back in action on Thursday night. Goal: Rougas (Flynn)

Soccer Team to Ohio

The Warriors traveled to Cuyahoga Valley to continue the long standing tradition of competing against the CVCA Royals. Each year the teams face off on this very weekend in an effort to compete at a high level and build relationships through the game of soccer. This year, the Warriors came away with a 2-2 tie. The Royals have not had a loss on their home pitch in 8 years and they kept it that way on Saturday. WA jumped out to a 2-0 lead but back to back set pieces by the Royals evened the game in the second half. Marshall West scored off a corner followed by Mark Rougas slicing through the defense and striking it far post for the Warriors' two goals. CVCA remains undefeated on the year and the Warriors move to 3-1-1 heading into the Pepsi Showdown this week.

Warriors Keep Taking Steps

The Warriors got their second conference win on Thursday night at Wheaton Academy. Mark Rougas scored a hat trick in the first half and the squad pulled away for its 2nd shutout of the year. The Warriors will travel to CVCA (Ohio) over the weekend to compete against the defending Ohio State Champion Royals. The game time at CVCA will be 1:00pm.

Warriors Find the Net

The Boys of WA Soccer found the net on Wednesday night in their opening of the Suburban Christian Conference. The Warriors move to 1-0 in the conference after a 9-1 win against Aurora Central Catholic.

Warriors Bounce Back

Wheaton Academy returned to its home field on Saturday night with the hopes of putting together a different level of play than that of Tuesday night. The Warriors improved their defensive shape to ensure a shutout while relying on a 25 yard strike from captain Josh Urban to notch the win. The Warriors enter conference play next week. Warriors Lose Opener

The Wheaton Academy Warriors left holes throughout the field that West Chicago attacked with pace and precision. The young WA team learned some valuable lessons in a rough loss to a very good West Chicago side. The Warriors got a goal and an assist from Zimmerman and a goal from Zeb Lewis. The Boys' will be back in action on Saturday night at home against Geneva at 6:30pm.
