St. Francis Defeats WA

Finishes Year 24-3

The Warriors fell in the IHSA Regionals on Tuesday night, losing to St. Francis 48-45 in a very physical game. In his final career game at WA, Tim Rusthoven led the Warriors with 21 points. In the 3 point shootout, Lars Olson and Luke Johnson advanced to the Championship round on Friday night.

Warriors Defeat Montini

Gear Up For Next Week's Regional

The Warriors won their final regular season game on Thursday night, posting a 62-39 victory over Montini. The win was the 24th for the Warriors in 26 games, making the evening a successful senior night. The Warriors will now be preparing for the IHSA Regional, which will be held at Wheaton Academy this year. The Warriors first game will be on Tuesday night.

Boys SCC Gold Champions

Next Play on Thursday Night

The Warriors won the SCC Gold Championship outright on Saturday night, defeating the Chargers of Aurora Central Catholic 68-34. Luke Johnson led the Warriors with 22 points, including 11 in the 4th quarter. The Warriors went undefeated in conference play, finishing 10-0. The boys have one more game before regionals begin - Thursday night against Montini.

The Warriors had bounded back from a tough loss to Benet with a dominating performance over Guerin Prep on Friday night. The Warriors defeats Guerin 80-51 as Tim Rusthoven finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Anthony Ritchie scored 17 points.

The Warriors continued their strong play on Tuesday night, defeating the Wildcats of West Chicago by 30 in a non-conference game 72-42. The Warriors defeated the Eagles of Aurora Christian in convincing fashion on Friday night 65-30. Tim Rusthoven led the way with 32 points in 3 quarters as the Warriors stayed perfect in SCC competition.The next game for the Warriors will be their first home game in over a month - Saturday Jan 23 - against St. Francis.

On Tuesday night, the Warriors won their 12th game in a row, defeating Addison Trail 72-49. With that win, the Warriors will be playing in the Championship Game on Wednesday night at 8pm against host school Glenbard West. Wheaton Academy defeated conference foe Saint Edward’s 65-33 at the Holiday Hoops Extravaganza. The Warriors played a very unselfish game dishing out 16 assists and played stifling defense holding Saint Ed’s to 12 first half points. Warriors Defeat Immaculate Conception

Move to 8-0

WA had a great team effort Saturday night in Elmhurst defeating conference school Immaculate Conception 73-53 to run their record to 8-0 (2-0 SCC). Four players scored in double figures for the Warriors led by Tim Rusthoven 18 points 5 rebounds and 5 blocks. Quinn Gorski poured in 16 points and 4 assists, Anthony Ritchie had 14 points and 2 rebounds and Chris Lesner added 10 points and 4 rebounds. The warrior led by 33 points going into the 4th quarter. The Warriors will face another SCC opponent Saint Edwards on Friday night at home in the Warrior Dome at 7:30 pm.

Wheaton Academy Wins 7th Straight

Defeat Wheaton North Falcons

At King Arena on Tuesday night, the Wheaton Academy Warriors moved to a perfect 7-0 on the season with a strong performance against Wheaton North. The Warriors, down by 2 baskets early, ended up defeating the Falcons by 28 points, 67-39. Tim Rusthoven and Luke Johnson both scored 14 points, and Anthony Ritchie chipped in with 11 points.

Warriors Defeat ACC

Win First Conference Game in SCC

The Wheaton Academy Warriors moved to 6-0 on the season and won their first ever game in the new SCC conference, defeating Aurora Central Catholic 69-58 on Friday night. The Warriors were involved in a tight game with the Chargers, with the Chargers leading by 1 entering the fourth quarter. Then the Warriors defense stepped up, and held ACC scoreless while the Warriors scored 14 straight. Tim Rusthoven led the Warriors with 31 points, and Anthony Ritchie scored 10 of his 17 points in the 4th quarter during the Warriors run. Walther Fall to Wheaton Academy

Warriors Win Physical Game, 4-0 on the Season

The Wheaton Academy Warriors moved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Walther Lutheran 69-55 on Saturday night. In a physical game that featured 58 free throw attempts, the Warriors started out by attacking the hoop and after taking a 4-2 lead, never looked back. With a large height advantage, Tim Rusthoven and Luke Johnson set the tone with 7 driving layups and short range jump shots between them in the first half and Wheaton Academy held a 36-17. The third quarter saw much of the same for the Warriors as they scored 17 points in the period and expanded the lead to over 20 points. Luke Johnson led the Warriors with 18 points, followed by 12 points a piece by Tim Rusthoven and Chris Lesner. Walther Lutheran’s Dunbar was the game high scorer with 23 points. The Warriors will be in action next on Tuesday night at Lisle High school.

Warriors Host Wheaton-Warrenville South

Defeat Tigers to Clinch Thanksgiving Tournament Title

The Wheaton Academy Warriors moved to 3-0 on the season by defeating Wheaton Warrenville South 57-47 on Friday night. With the victory, the Warriors clinch their own Thanksgiving Tournament Championship. The Warriors found themselves down quickly 4-0 on back to back shots by South’s Derek Babb and Marcus Williams, but over the last six minutes of the quarter, the Warriors outscored the Tigers 14-1 to take a 14-5 lead. Wheaton Warrenville South went on a 5-0 run to start the second quarter, and eventually got the lead down to 4 points, but two Anthony Ritchie free throws, a technical foul on the Tigers, followed by a steal and layup by Chris Lesner pushed the momentum back in favor of the Warriors. Quinn Gorski finished the half on a high note for the Warrior as he made a layup as time expired, and helped build a 29-18 first half lead for Wheaton Academy. The two big men for the Warriors came to life in the second half – Rusthoven scored 14 points and Luke Johnson contributed 12 second half points as the Warriors pulled away from the Tigers. Rusthoven finished with a team high 20 points. Luke Johnson (16 points) and Anthony Ritchie (12 points) were the other Warriors in double figures. Derek Babb led the Tigers with a game high 22 points.

Warriors Defeat Eagles

Move to 2-0 before Wheaton-Warrenville South Game

The Wheaton Academy Warriors (2-0) defeated the Leyden Eagles (0-1) by a score of 64-50 on Tuesday night. The Eagles started out strong by hitting 4 of their first 7 jump shots and building up an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Led by Tim Rusthoven’s 9 points during the second period, Wheaton Academy held a slight 28-26 halftime lead. The Warriors continued pressure in the third quarter, going on a 7-0 run, which included a 3 point play by Anthony Ritchie and a driving layup by Quinn Gorski. By the end of the quarter, the Warriors outscored the Eagles 17-6 and never looked back. For the game, the Warriors were led by forwards Luke Johnson (18 points) and Tim Rusthoven (15 points, 3 blocks). Chris Lesner and Quinn Gorski also contributed 14 points each. Brandon Stinson (12 points) and Mike Woolf (10 points) led the Eagles in scoring. The Warriors will be playing next on Friday night at 8pm in the Warrior Dome against Wheaton-Warrenville South.

Boys Basketball Wins Opener

Continue in Thanksgiving Tournament Tonight

The Wheaton Academy Warriors posted an opening season win against Streamwood High School 64-50. Tim Rusthoven got the Warriors off to a strong start, scoring 9 points in the opening quarter, as Wheaton Academy led 17-5. With 3:00 left in the 2nd quarter, the Sabers cut the lead down to four before the Warriors responded, scoring a couple quick points to take a 7 point halftime lead. In the second half, the Warriors built up a 19 point lead before Streamwood came back to make it a 9 point game. Buckets by Anthony Ritchie, Quinn Gorski, and Tim Rusthoven shifted the momentum in favor of the Warriors as the Warriors posted a 14 point win. Rusthoven led all scorers with 28 points, followed by Chris Lesner with 15 points. Tonight the Warriors play Leyden in Game 2 of the Thanksgiving Tournament in the Warrior Dome. Game time is 8:00pm.

Round 1 of WA Thanksgiving Tournament

The Wheaton Academy Boys basketball teams will be in action for their first games on November 23rd in the Wheaton Academy Thanksgiving Tournament. The Varsity boys will be playing at 8pm against Streamwood High School. Sophomores start at 4pm against Aurora Christian in the Warrior Dome, and the freshman also play Aurora Christian at 4pm, but in the Heritage Field House.
