Trevor Swaney Named All-Area Athlete On Friday Trevor Swaney was recognized by the Daily Herald to the All-Area baseball team. Swaney was a pitcher/outfielder for the Warriors as they went 20-10 on the season. He had a batting average of .477 and was 6-2 on the mound with an ERA of 1.77. Swaney is a junior and will be returning to the Wheaton Academy team next year.
Daily Herald Article Warriors Season ends in 5-1 Loss to Broncos The Warrior baseball season came to a close with a 5-1 loss to Montini in the Glenbard South Regional. The Warrior bats could just not string enough hits together to get a rally started. The disappointing loss ended a historic season that saw the team take first place in conference for the first time and keep the streak of 20 wins going for the fourth consecutive year. It is a tough loss to the program as 6 seniors will graduate who have been instrumental to the success and growth of Warrior baseball. Thank you Tate Fritz, JD Joiner, Ryan Kramer, Alec Lochridge, David Sapyta and Luke Thorson and good luck to all of you.
Five Warriors Named to SCC All-Conference Team Five Warriors were named to the All-Conference team:
Pitcher/3rd baseman, Trevor Swamey (Jr.), outfielder J.D. Joiner (Sr.) batted .405 in conference play for the Warriors, 1st baseman Tate Fritz (Sr.) was elected for the 2nd year; 2nd baseman Drew Sandberg (Jr.), who committed only 1 error in conference play, and catcher Alec McNally (Jr.), who batted leadoff and was the leader who made it possible for the Warrior pitching staff to have an ERA OF 2.40 in conference play. Congratulations to all of you!!!
Swaney Named Player of the Year Trevor Swaney was selected as the Player of the Year for the SCC Gold Division. Trevor batted .400 in conference play and was dominant on the mound, going 5-0 in conference play with a 1.41 ERA. In 40 innings pitched. Trevor struck out 49 batters while walking only 5.
Warriors Fall to Knights 8-3 The Warriors traveled to Kaneland for a tough non-conference game on Tuesday and lost 8-3. The Warriors took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning when Drew Sandberg led off the inning with his second double of the day and sophomore Jon McKenna knocked him in the go ahead run on a single up the middle. The game looked in hand for the Warriors with Ace Trevor Swaney on the mound going for his seventh victory. But a couple of miscues in the field by the Warriors led to a breakout 6 run inning for the Knights of Kaneland that proved to be too much for the Warriors to overcome. The Warriors will play tomorrow against St. Joe’s in Westchester and will again attempt to tie the school record of 21 wins for a season.
Warriors win 20th on Senior day Seniors Tate Fritz and David Sapyta each had three RBI’s in their final appearance at home for the Warriors. Tate Fritz continued his home run streak hitting his 4th in four games. David Sapyta hit a three run triple in the Warriors 9-run third inning. Derek Enger picked up the win to go 3-1 on the season.
Warriors Win Conference, Defeat Montini 9-4 The Warrior bats came alive early pounding out 5 runs in the top of the 1st inning on the Montini pitcher. Tate Fritz, JD Joiner and Drew Sandberg all contributed homeruns as the Warriors raked out 13 hits. That was all Trevor Swaney needed as he controlled the Montini bats to go 6-1 on the season.
Warriors Defeat Westminister Christian On Ndondi night, with the Warriors wearing orange,Max Ishikawa (3-0) threw a 1 hitter against a tough Westminister team. The Warrior bats came alive and hit the Westminister pitcher who was clocked at 92 mph. Alex Mc Nally (1-2) took a double off the wall in the first. Tate Fritz(1-1) hit a triple, Luke Boggs (1-2) had a single and Trevor Swaney stayed hot going 1-2. The Warriors now play for the conference championship tomorrow at Montini, game time 4:30, come out and support the Warriors as we battle for first place.
Warriors lose 2-1 Despite a strong pitching performance from Jerry Budsisz and a solo home run from Tate Fritz the Warriors lost to a tough non-conference opponent.It was a great pitching duel with the game tied 1-1 through 51/2 innings until R/B came up with a run in the bottom of the six with 2 outs. Jerry Budsisz went the distance for the Warriors yielding 5 hits 2 runs in six innings. He also had 6 K's with only 1 walk.Trevor Swaney had 2 hits and Tate Fritz hit his 5th Home run on the season for the lone run.
Warriors lose to Marion Central Catholic 11-7 The Warriors came out flat today and staked Marion Central Catholic to a 10-1 lead after 3 innings. The Warriors fought back behind a 3 run homerun by Drew Sandberg to close the score to 10-7, but that was as close as it would get. The Warriors threatened in the 7th inning, but stranded two runners in scoring position to end the game.
Warriors Take Two From St. Ed's The Warriors swept a weekday double header from The Green Wave on Wednesday. In the first game Alex McNally pitched a complete game for the win and Luke Molloy knocked in the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. In the second game Jerry Budsisz pitched three strong innings and sophomore John Schmitz pitched 3 stellar innings in relief for his first Varsity win, Derric Enger came in and pitched a scoreless 7th to close it out for the save. Luke Molloy stayed hot in the 2nd game and hit his first home run of the season. JD Joiner had a 2 run triple in the 6th to seal the victory for the Warriors. The Warriors are now 17-6 on the season, 11-3 in conference and in sole possesion of first place.

Warriors lose 4-0 to Aurora Christian Aurora Christian took advantage of some early mistakes to take an early lead and their pitcher held the Warriors bats to two hits in the conference showdown for first place.
Warriors win 12-7 The Warriors bats came alive Saturday in the 12-7 win against conference opponent Aurora Central Catholic. Drew Sandberg hit a two run home run in the 4th.Trevor Swaney went 3-4; Tate Fritz and Ryan Kramer went 2-4 and Luke Molloy went 1-1. The Warriors are now 8-2 in the SCC and 14-5 Overall on the season.
Warriors beat St.Francis in Nine The Warriors beat conference rival St. Francis 7-2 in nine innings at Elfstrom Stadium on Friday night. Ryan Kramer went 6 innings giving up 2 runs before giving way to Trevor Swaney. Swaney held the Spartans the rest of the way to get the win, throwing three innings of scoreless relief before the Warrior bats erupted for 5 runs in the 9th inning. The Warriors threatened all night before finally breaking through in the 9th inning. Alex McNally went 3-5 from the leadoff spot and JD. Joiner remained hot, going 2-4 with two big hits and driving in two runs. But it was Jake Cousins who provided the hit that broke the game wide open in the 9th, with a single up the middle that drove in two runs. This was a huge win for the Warriors as they remain in 1st place in the conference with a record of 7-2.
Warriors Win 4-3 over ACC Derek Enger and Jake Cousins combined pitching efforts to defeat conference opponent Aurora Central Catholic 4-3. Enger got the win and Cousins picked up the save, striking out 7 and allowing only 1 hit in 3 innings. The Warrior offense was led by Luke Boggs, who went 2-2 with 2 runs scored, and Trevor Swaney, who went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. The Warriors are now 6-2 in the conference, 12-5 overall.
Warriors take two from Commandos Wheaton Academy swept a doubleheader beating Marshall 20-0 in the First game and 20-10 in the second game. Max Ishikawa picked up his first win in game one and Jerry Budzisz got the win in the second game to go 2-0 on the season. The Warriors hit three home runs on the day. Trevor Swaney hit his 2nd of the year, Tate Fritz hit his 3rd on the season and JD Joiner hit his 1st for the year.
Warriors Let one Slip Away in 7th The Warriors faced conference foe Chicago Christian in a battle for first place on Thursday and lost 7-5. The Warriors took a 5-2 lead into the top of the 7th when Chicago Christian put a 5 spot on the board to take a 7-5 lead. The stunned Warriors could not get a rally going in the bottom half of the 7th and lost a heart-breaker.
Warriors lose 5-4 to #4 ranked Nazareth Academy The Warriors traveled to #4 ranked Nazareth Academy on Wednesday and lost a tough game 5-4. The Warriors had their chances in the bottom of the 7th and fell short stranding two runners. The game had to be moved to Nazareth due to standing water on the WA field but the Warriors were unfazed threatening in the first inning leaving two runners in scoring position. The score remained tied 1-1 through three innings before Nazareth added two runs in the fourth inning. The Warriors added a run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the score to 3-2. That was the score until Nazareth added 2 runs in the 6th inning to take a 5-2 lead. In the seventh with the score still 5-2 the Warriors fought back to 5-4 before stranding two runners to end the game.
The Warriors played the state ranked team and showed why they are a team to be feared come tournament time. The offense, led by Alec McNally and Drew Sandberg who each went 2-4 and J.D. Joiner and Jake Cousins who each went 2-3, out hit Nazareth 9 to 8. While on the mound Ryan Kramer and Derrick Enger kept the high powered offense off balance yielding only 3 earned runs.

Warriors Triumphant in Sapyta's Return Behind Trevor Swaneys' bat and Matt Brandys' arm the Warriors pushed their win streak to 4 with a 16-4 victory over Walther Lutheran. Trevor Swaney went 3-4 with a home run and Matt Brandys went 6 strong innings with 8 strikeouts while allowing 2 earned runs to pick up the win. Swaney wasn't the only Warrior who swung a potent bat, J.D. Joiner went 2-3; Brandys went 2-3; Jake Cousins went 2-2 and John McKenna and Tate Fritz each went 2-4 as the team pounded out 19 hits. The game also marked the return of David Sapyta, who is coming back from pre-season knee surgery, when in the 6th inning he stroked a single off the wall in right center field.
Warriors Sweep Guerin Prep Ryan Kramer went 6 solid innings allowing one run on one hit. Luke Thorson finished off the 7th inning for the hold in his Warrior debut. The Warrior bats were led by Trevor Swaney who went 2-2 with a double, J.D. Joiner went 3-4 with a double, John McKenna went 3-4 with a double, Tate Fritz hit a home run and Matt Brandys went 1-3 with a triple.
Swaney Shuts Down Guerin Prep Trevor Swaney threw another gem for the Warriors as they beat Guerin Prep 3-1 in a conference showdown. Swaney only needed 82 pitches to pick up the complete game victory and improve his record to 3-1 on the season. Swaney has not issued an earned run in his last 14 innings while striking out 20 and not surrendering a walk during this stretch.
Ryan Kramer provided the game winning hit in the sixth inning when his duck snort single up the middle scored Mike Kuppler from 2nd.
Warriors Love the Long Ball The Warriors won 10-0 on Saturday defeating Brooks Prep. The offense pounded out three home runs: Matt Brandys hit a three run shot in the 1st inning, Alec Lochridge had a two run shot in the 2nd and John Mckenna followed with a solo shot in the third. Derrick Enger continued his solid work on the mound throwing three scoreless innings with 4 k's for the win.
Warriors Lose Pitchers Duel The Warriors faced a tough crossover conference rival in Marmion on Thursday and took a tough 2-0 loss. The Warriors could not get anything going at the plate only registering two hits but still doubled up Marmion’s total of one hit. Matt Brandys went 5 strong innings registering 5 strikeouts and allowing only one hit and Derrick Enger came in relief and threw 2 no-hit shutout innings.
Warriors Sweep IC This Warrior baseball team can beat you in a lot of ways. One day after beating IC 1-0, the Warriors showed they can also out hit opponents pounding out 22 hits in the 16-7 victory. Alec McNally, Drew Sandberg,Matt Brandys and Trevor Swaney all had three hits.Tate Fritzs' double in the 7th was the final blow for IC as Fritz picked up his 4th and 5th RBI's. Ryan Kramer picked up his first win of the season (1-0) as he threw 5 solid innings before giving way to Jake Cousins who picked up the save.(1)
Warriors Win Conference Opener Trevor Swaney threw a complete game shut-out against a tough conference foe in Immaculate Conception to pick up the win 1-0. Swaney kept the IC hitters off balance all day mixing in his off speed pitches with his dominant fastball. He continually got ahead of the hitters and was efficient using only 87 pitches in his 7 innings of work. The Warriors scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with Swaney leading off with a single to left. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Kramer. Jake Cousins then drove a single past the diving IC third baseman allowing Swaney to score the game winning run.
Warriors Face Tough Pitching, Weather in Florida The Warriors went 1-2 on the Varsity Spring trip losing twice to State ranked Rock Bridge High School from Columbia, Missouri and winning one game against Conifer Prep from Colorado. Two other games were rained out due to hurricane- type weather and one was cancelled due to tornado warnings.
In the first game, Trevor Swaney battled to keep Rock Bridge scoreless through 4 innings. In the fifth inning Rock Bridge scored two runs (1 earned) on 1 hit. WA came back with one run in the bottom half to close the gap to 2-1. Rock Bridge added 3 runs in the 6th after Swaney departed the game. The final score was 6-1 in a hard fought game against a tough Rock Bridge pitcher who threw well but in the end the Warriors didn’t take advantage of their opportunities, leaving many runners in scoring position..
The second game against Rock Bridge ended with a score of 12-2. The Warriors struck early, marking 2 runs on the board in the top of the 1st but failed to move anyone across the plate thereafter. Matt Brandys fought hard on the mound but the bounces did not seem to go his way as Rock Bridge did most of their damage with only 3 balls leaving the infield. The score is not indicative of how close this game was played. The Warrior offense failed to get the timely hit to open up the offense, only threatening against another tough pitcher from Rock Bridge.
In the third game the Warrior bats came to life against Conifer Prep from Colorado as the Warriors won 12-11. Max Ishikawa picked up the win in relief after he followed strong outings by Jon Schmitz and Derrick Enger, who left the game early with a leg injury. The offense started slow staking Conifer Prep with a six run lead before the Warrior bats came alive and pounded out 12 runs in the final three innings. It was truly a team win as all 22 players registered in the scorebook.
Warriors Continue Winning Ways Behind a strong pitching performance from Jake Cousins and 11 hits, the Warriors continued their strong start. Sophomore Jake Cousins picked up his first Varsity win with 6 strikeouts, giving up only one hit during the game. The Warriors bats provided more than enough run support with home runs from Tate Fritz (1) and Matt Brandys (1) and Ryan Kramer continued his hot hitting going 2-3. Brandys, Alec McNally and Trevor Swaney all had 2 hits.
Warriors Open with Big Win The Warrior baseball team opened up the season with a strong pitching performance and a barrage of hits. Trevor Swaney picked up the win and Matt Brandys came in relief and struck out 6 in two innings of work. Ryan Kramer went 2-2 with a triple that brought in two runs in the 2nd inning which broke the game wide open.Alec McNally went 2-4 and Derek Enger hit his 1st Varsity home run.

I am looking forward to what the new season holds for both the varsity, sophomore, and freshman programs.
