On graduation Saturday, it was the seniors that helped propel the Warriors to the 2009 IHSA Class 2A State Title! Jen Lee scored a goal in the first half, which gave the Warriors a 1-0 halftime lead; then in the second half, Leah Fortune and Jen both scored to give the Warriors a 3-0 victory over the Indians of Lemont High School.

Soccer Continues March to 2A Title

Defeat Sycamore for Place in Championship Game

In a strong performance by the girls, the Wheaton Academy Soccer Team defeated Sycamore 5-2 in the State Semi-Final game. Lexi Sharkey, Ally Witt (2 goals), Leah Fortune, and Crystal Thomas provided the scoring. The title game will be at North Central College on Saturday at 1pm against Lemont High School. Come and cheer the ladies on as they look to win their second championship in the past 5 years!

Girls Soccer Wins Super-Sectional Game!

For the first time in 5 years, the girls soccer team has advanced to the state final round in Naperville, IL. On Tuesday night, the Warriors defeated Lake Villa 4-0 to earn a date with Sycamore High School on Friday at 11am. If the girls win on Friday, they would play for the Class 2A Championship on Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Ally Witt, Sydney Sharkey, and Lexi Sharkey (2 goals) provided the scoring for the Warriors, and Emily Mulder had 4 stops in a shutout victory over Lake Villa. Daily Herald Complete Recap

 

Soccer Advances to Super Sectional

Win Sectional Over Rival St. Francis

The Wheaton Academy Girls Soccer Team defeated St Francis by a score of 4-1 Friday night to claim the IHSA 2A Sectional Title. Led by Becca Long's two second-half goals, the Warriors bounced back from an early 1-0 deficit to dominate the final 70 minutes of play. After allowing a 10th minute goal by St Francis striker Andy Matichak, Wheaton Academy only allowed one shot on goal for the remainder of the match. The defense, led by Jenn Lee, Lindsey Burke, Kerrin Clancy, Christi Dithrich, and Caley Kopp have been outstanding in the second half of the season, holding teams to less than 4 shots on goal. The Warriors will continue their run Tuesday night in a Super-Sectional matchup with Lakes High School. Kick-off is scheduled for 5pm at Barrington High School. DeRenzo Runs at State

Sets Personal Best in 1600m Run

The track season came to a close as junior Mike DeRenzo competed in the IHSA state preliminaries on Friday afternoon. In the race, Mike set a personal best time of 4:36 for the 1600m run. In an extremely fast preliminary heat, Mike ran with some of the best runners in the state to run a 3:21 for the first 1200m.

WA To Play in Sectional Championship

Girls Soccer Defeats Payton 9-5

The Wheaton Academy Girls Soccer team will advance to the Class 2A Sectional Final after defeating Payton High School 9-5 Wednesday night. The Warriors controlled the run of play for the majority of the match, despite trailing 1-0 after 13 minutes. Payton scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick, which was their only shot of the first half. The Warriors responded immediately, as Leah Fortune beat a collection of defenders to knot the score within a minute Payton's goal. WA caught fire for the remainder of the half, and drove their lead up to 5-1 by halftime. The second half saw some balance in the action, as both teams converted 4 goals to drive the final score up to 9-5. The Warriors move to the Sectional Final match for the first time since their State Championship run in 2004. The Final will be played Friday night at 7pm at Wheaton Academy. Goals (assists): Fortune, Fortune (Crystal Thomas), Meghan Grant, Fortune (Grant), Thomas (Jenn Lee), Lee, Kristen Wittmuss (Ally Witt), Fortune, Wittmuss (Fortune).
